Malays must not allow themselves to fall into the trap being carefully laid for them by the DAP, Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin warned today.

"Don't de easily duped by DAP's trap," he said at a press conference in Putrajaya today. "After so long, suddenly they want to recruit Malays. Who knows what for?" he said.

All throughout history, Muhyiddin said, he and political veterans were aware that the DAP had never even once stood up for the rights of the Malays.

All the party ever stood for with any conviction, he claimed, were issues such as Chinese education.

"Look through the annals of history. Their chauvinist manner is clear," the deputy prime minister added.

More importantly, he said, the DAP exhibited racist tendencies and Malays must therefore be warned that there must be hidden motives for the party to be suddenly recruiting Malays.

"When they have a need for Malay leaders in order to fill the ranks of executive councillors or high positions (in Pakatan governments), then they look for Malays," he said.

Muhyiddin said this in response to DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang's statement that more Malays were gearing up to join the party.

Recently, two Malay Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) students announced their intention to join the DAP.

Their move came on the footsteps of two Malay lawyers and press freedom advocate and former NUJ chief Hata Wahari, who signed up as members of the party.

Firstly, MarGeeMar did not mention anywhere in the Blog posting "New Zealand Migration Agents Cheating Malaysians Thousands Of Ringgit!" the name of Rayford Migration Services or any other migration services. Secondly, this Blog does not edit nor remove comments posted here as comments are not moderated. ARTICLES WRITTEN BY INDIVIDUALS IN THIS BLOG DOES NOT NECESSARILY REFLECT THE OPINION OF MarGeeMar The Scribe. THE SCRIBE DOES NOT SUBSCRIBE TO CENSORSHIP. I fully agree with this Post, here I have been trying to migrate out of Malaysia for a very long time now and have speculate a lot in this area,though my opinion may not have any statistical information I hope my personal opinion will suffice this matter.

I have heard of this Rayford Migration Services for a long time and seen your company conduct road shows around the entire Malaysia, not bad Rayford, that's one thing I got to give it to you guys.
But you guys are tad expensive for the average Malaysian to afford (like my self).

On the other hand there are other guys like you, Kitson, Global, etc...
For everyone's information these guys are a bit cheaper ;)!! But they have only just entered the market, so fingers cross i hope these guys know what their doing.

I approached almost every single migration agent there is in Kuala Lumpur, and like the rest they all look the same to me. Well i guess you should see for yourself.

Well oops I have muttered a bit too much now, So I'll leave this with you guys, after so many years of trying to chose whether to migrate with an agent or not, I have decide to do it myself.

It took ALOT and I mean ALOT of my time to do it. But at the end i think it was worth it.

Now I'm happily in Auckland New Zealand :) and all i had was 105 points! I guess you guys can give it a shot ;)

Hindraf supporters who attended the ABU forum in Shah Alam were beaten badly and called 'Keling Keluar! Ini tempat Melayu!' by Pekida 3 line gangsters. The BN/Umno linked thugs hurled racial abuses shouting at the participants, many who were Indians. “One of them called us ‘keling’ while others proceeded to taunt the Indians present and shouted at the Malays there ‘you orang tak kenal hutang budi‘ (you unappreciative lot),” said legal executive M Yuktesvaran. IT IS CLEAR PROVOCATION HERE THAT THESE UMNO LINKED THUGS WANTED TO START A RACIAL CLASH. THANK GOD THE MAINLY ETHNIC INDIAN CROWD REMAINED CALM AND DID NOT RESPOND TO THE PROVOCATIONS BY THESE RABID MONGRELS.

All the equipment in the hall were destroyed by them. A supporter was admitted in the emergency ward at the Sentosa Specialist Hospital Klang. He suffered injuries on his head, chest, hands and feet.

The incident happened at about 9.15pm when the ceramah was about to start.
About 30 attackers, waving sticks and helmets, rode their motorcycles into the ceramah venue – a hall – and rammed into participants and chairs.
Others had followed on foot and had allegedly ’caused havoc’ by tossing chairs, throwing away ABU brochures, and hurling insults at participants, demanding for them to leave. Organiser and ceramah participants believe the attackers were linked to Umno.

“I believe they were Umno people. They had the BN and Umno flags, and were wearing Umno t-shirts,” said one participant who alerted FMT of the incident. “There was some arguments and one boy was badly beaten by the unruly youths using helmets,” said Suara Rakyat Malaysia (Suaram) executive director E Nalini who was there to observe the ceramah.

The speakers of the disrupted ceramah were supposed to be lawyer-activist Haris Ibrahim, PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu, PKR leader Badrul Hisham Shahrin and Hindraf national coordinator W Sambulingam.

Mohamad Sabu said he was on stage when the incident happened. “They can’t do this, if they disagreed with us or our programmes, they can complain to the police, not attack people. This is a very bad image for democracy,” he said.

However, the Malaysian Police, which every one knows to be the lap dogs of BN/Umno have come out on denial mode and has instead put the blame on the organizers. Selangor police chief Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah brushed off claims of any attacks at the ceramah. “No such incident though there was some dissatisfaction by the residents about the activity,”. “No damages or injuries to people as alleged…no riots occurred,” he said, adding that Hindraf supporters were present at the venue. However Shah Alam OCPD Zahedi Ayob confirmed there was “shouting and pushing” at the ceramah but everything calmed down after the arrival of the police. He said that the tension was caused by the anti-Umno ceramah in a Malay area. He added that the Malay residents got angry with the ceramah, especially with a banner which called for the end of the Umno/BN “regime”. The ethnic Chinese community should unite and work together with other Malaysians to ensure a change of government in the coming election, Lim Kit Siang (pic above) said today.
The DAP parliamentary leader said Malaysians needed to vote the opposition into power as Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) suffered from an “incorrigible disease of denial complex” in refusing to admit the failures of government and nation-building.

“If more evidence is needed to prove how cut off the Barisan Nasional leadership has become from the aspirations of ordinary Malaysians, one need only refer to the message by the MCA president yesterday calling on the Chinese voters not to ‘experiment’ in the next general election as Barisan Nasional’s leadership has allowed the community to prosper.

“Just as the Malaysian economy has developed in the past few decades despite the misgovernance, corruption and abuses of power of the Umno-BN leadership, the prosperity of the Chinese community had been achieved despite the failings of the Barisan Nasional leadership,” Lim said in a statement.

The Ipoh Timur MP stressed that Malaysians not only had nothing to thank BN for but were entitled to blame the ruling coalition for “lost opportunities” to make the country developed, prosperous, competitive and more united.

“This is why a total change of power in Putrajaya is uppermost in the minds of more and more Malaysians and I call on the Malaysian Chinese to unite and rise as one dragon, together with all other Malaysians, to effect a change of power in Putrajaya in the next general election to begin a new page of history celebrating the greatness of all Malaysians,” he said.

MCA's David Chua Hoodwinking Bagan Voters To Win Bagan Parliamentary Seat

So now the cat is finally out of the bag. the Evil BN/Umno Regime's Coordinator from MCA in the Bagan Parliamentary Constituency David Chua (pic above) has finally come out in the open to state his intention to contest against incumbent MP of Bagan and Penang Chief Minister YAB Lim Guan Eng.

Typical with the beggar mentality of MCA, Chua makes a 'modest' claim that he has a 20% chance of upsetting YAB Lim. From the onset of MCA's decimation at the hands of Pakatan Rakyat in the 2008 General Elections, the conniving and politically ambitious Chua has been slithering around markets, hawkers stalls, temples and every nook and corner all in the hope of positioning himself as the Caring, Hardworking David against the Goliath Lim Guan Eng.

Chua's efforts have been complemented by MCA's The Star newspaper which has gone on overdrive to paint Chua as 'Malaysias last Boy Scout'. The MCA federal leadership have been banging their war drums even louder by confidently stating that MCA will wrest Bagan for the Evil BN/Umno Regime from Pakatan Rakyat which will be a major coup for MCA as it will have the scalp of DAP Secretary General and Penang Chief Minister YAB Lim Guan Eng.

On the current crisis in the Penang MCA, Chua was unfazed about more than 400 members, including the state Youth chief Eng Hiap Boon, resigning from the party.

He said the situation had no impact as party members supported and respected their chief Dr Chua Soi Lek and that “they will toe the party line”.

Already, MCA is confident that its proposed candidate for Bagan will give the opposition coalition a run for their money in the 13th general election.

MCA deputy president Liow Tiong Lai said the party had chosen a candidate capable of giving stiff competition, but declined to name the person even though we all know it is the Snake David Chua.

Another interesting development is that MCA is seen warming up to Indians in the Constituency. MCA knows all too well that the Chinese voters have ditched MCA for DAP and so they are now relying on Indian votes. This is strange that the mostly Chinese educated and Mandarin speaking members of MCA 'fondly' refers to Indians as 'Kelinga Kooi' (Indian Devil) or 'Or Kooi' (Black Devil) in the local Chinese Hokkien dialect. Now MCA has parachuted an 'Or Kooi' in the form of lawyer Karuppanan Malairaja of MIC to ensure the Indians in Bagan vote for David Chua. Lawyer Karuppanan himself has been doing a 'David Chua' of his own and is the 'favored one' of MIC Chief Palanivel for the Prai State Constituency Seat. Karuppanan's 'Last Boy Scout' dramas has been played up and giving prominence by The Star. It is played to the tune of PM Najib Razak's classic "You help me. I help you", even though deep in their racists hearts they are nothing but a 'China Pandi' (Chinese Pig) and 'Kelinga Kooi'.

The voters of Bagan and as elsewhere should watch out for this 'Sandiwara' and their 'actors' being played out by the Evil BN/Umno Regime to fool the Rakyat (People).

JUBAL LOURDES, NAJIB RAZAK (BN/UMNO) & ANAS ZUBEDY. It Just Doesn't Add Up!

Anas Zubedy (pic right), the guy who takes out full paged advertisements in local newspapers wishing people "Have A Meaningful This & That" is in the news again. This time around he has come out to attack ABU (Anything But Umno/BN). Anas says that ABU takes the assumption that everyone in UMNO is bad and everyone in the opposition is good. Anas claims that the ABU campaign promotes the kind of unthinking decision making process that is potentially destructive. What Anas is saying that we must not throw out Umno/Bn as a party but only do some 'pruning' and maintain the status quo as he is of the opinion that Umno/BN still has a few good men and women to continue running the country.

The thing that keeps on bugging The Scribe was when the way Anas Zubedy reacted when this statement appeared in the above mentioned article, "Dear Anas, it's time for you to take a reality check. From what The Scribe understands from those who knew Jubal, they would vouch that Jubal WOULD NEVER subscribe to Anas' point of view. THE SCRIBE HAS BEEN TOLD THAT IF JUBAL LOURDES WERE TO BE ALIVE TODAY, HE WOULD BE AT THE FOREFRONT OF ABU, BERSIH AND WOULD DEFINITELY BE ONE OF THE LEADING BARISAN RAKYAT BLOGGERS. BN/Umno Bankrupting EPF & Malaysia To Cling On To Power!

The Prime Minister of Malaysia's BN/Umno Regime, Najib Razak (pic above) claimed that the country’s finances were sound, insisting a strong domestic economy had helped fund the government’s “Bantuan Rakyat 1 Malaysia” (BR1M) cash handout program.

Najib Razak added that the program had not worsened the country’s budget deficit, saying instead the deficit had decreased despite the additional cash handouts. The Scribe would like to ask the BN/Umno Regime this "If Malaysia has extra money from the local economy Malaysia should pay its creditors. This will reduce interest. We owe our creditors in billions of dollars. Pakatan Rakyat ruled Penang & Selangor have excess funds as they manage their finances properly (i.e the absence of corruption unlike BN/Umno ruled states). That's why they can pay their own citizens using these excess funds. No one has heard that we have to borrow to pay our citizens just to show you care for them. This shows the P(C)rime Minister knows nuts about the financial crisis we are in. If the BN/Umno Regime continues to rule Malaysia after the next General Election,Malaysia will surely go bankrupt if it is not bankrupt already!"

In the first place,what's the objective of the RM500 handout to families who earn less than RM 3000 a month? Is it to alleviate the financial burden of those whose incomes are less than RM3000? Pure irony in that Najib Razak is claiming that the domestic economy is strong at an event where he is handling out money to a massive number of households with incomes below RM3,000. If the benefits of a strong, domestic economy is not helping them, who is it helping? We know the answer to that,don't we.

If that's not what is then the objective if not an electoral sweetener? We're not fools, and we're sure there will be plenty of those who won't be taking this RM500 form of corruption even though they're eligible.

Meanwhile in another "You help me,I help you" vote buying scam, Malaysia's Employee Provident Fund (EPF) closed a five-year 300 million pound ( close to RM 1.64 Billion) loan, its first offshore loan, to fund the acquisition of three London-based properties. EPF's loan was increased from an initial 240 million pounds. Citigroup was the lead arranger, bookrunner and sole underwriter on the deal. Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, OCBC Bank, Scotiabank and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp also joined the deal as equal status arrangers.

EPF unit, KWASA UK solo Ltd, was the borrower on the deal, which will fund the acquisition of three properties in London for 490 million pounds (close to RM 2.42 Billion). While EPF financed the remainder of the purchase price with cash from the 'Rakyats' (Peoples) EPF contribution.

The loan was tightly priced at a margin of 123 basis points over sterling Libor with an upfront fee of 110 bps, translating to an all-in of 145b over. EPF did not provide any guarantee for the loan, although there is a put option where EPF has to buy the properties from KWASA at a price that is at least equal to the outstanding amount on the loan should there be defaults. There goes your retirement fund folks. Still wanna vote for BN/Umno?

New Zealand Migration Agents Cheating Malaysians Thousands Of Ringgit!

If you have applied for skilled migration to New Zealand and have been told by your migration agent that you have qualified for migration, please do not believe it!
Unscrupulous migration agents based in Kuala Lumpur have been conducting roadshows across the country claiming that individuals who are professionals with related work experience can be accepted for Permanent Residence (PR) in New Zealand.

What these unscrupulous migration agents would tell you is that you have qualified for the minimum 100 points required for getting your PR. Go here http://www.immigration.govt.nz/migrant/ They would then ask you to pay between RM 8,000 to RM 9,000 (non refundable) and submit your Expression of Interest (EOI) form.

What they don't tell you is that upon submitting your EOI, the New Zealand Government would only select those with 140 points even though the minimum requirement is 100 points. What happens next is that your application will sit in a 'pool' for 6 months where you would be asked to renew your application with additional charges.

The Scribe calls on all those who have been duped by these unscrupulous migration agents to report them to the local authorities and the New Zealand government if they refuse to give you a refund. It is understood that these migration agents have cheated Malaysians thousands of Ringgit. This has to stop!

Anwar Ibrahim Acquitted BUT BN/UMNO Media Whores Will Try To Score Brownie Points For Najib!

Malaysia’s High Court has acquitted opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim on a charge of sodomising a male aide. Thousands of his supporters gathered outside the courtroom on Monday cheered the verdict, which follows three years of heated skirmishes over the fate of Anwar, who is now poised to challenge Prime Minister Najib Razak at the next election. A guilty verdict would have allowed judges to sentence Anwar to up to 20 years in jail, ending his political career. Opposition activists, civil rights groups and foreign observers had cried foul over the politicised trial. Many doubted the independence of Malaysia’s judiciary, which has long been subject to political pressure from the ruling UMNO party. Anwar called it a conspiracy by Najib and his allies to destroy the opposition. However, the judges ruled Monday that the evidence presented to the court, particularly DNA evidence, wasn’t sufficiently reliable to secure a conviction. And so he walked.

This is a triumph for Anwar’s defence team who had ridiculed the testimony of the accuser, who briefly worked for Anwar’s political campaign in 2008. That was the year when UMNO’s ruling coalition suffered an electoral setback. So when sodomy charges were filed against Anwar, it seemed like a fit-up (or entrapment) by an entrenched political elite. Already, the BN/Umno Regime of Najib Razak is trying to score 'Brownie Points' with Anwar's acquittal. This is the first response from the Regime when questiona about Government interference in the Judiciary arosed, "Not so, the government argued. A criminal case was being heard by an independent court. No interference," Najib insisted. His office was quick off the mark to hail the verdict as a positive development. The judges began reading their verdict at 9:20am, Malaysian time. By 9:41am, a government press release arrived in my inbox, attributable to Communications Minister Rais Yatim.

You can bet the Media Prostitutes like the Newscasters of TV3 like Pang Chin Feh et al, Baradan Kupusamy, The Mother of Journalistic Harlots Joceline Tan of the Star, Utusan Malaysia, NST, Berita Harian etc. and all the gutless MSM journalists aligned to BN/Umno will go full throttle to echo Najibs claim.

Phil Robertson, deputy director of Human Rights Watch’s Asia division best summed it up by stating "Anwar was acquitted on a charge that should have never been brought in the first place. Hopefully this verdict sends a message to the government to put this matter to rest."

Malay Support Continue To Move Away From UMNO To DAP!

It is now crystal clear why during the recent Umno General Assembly, why the DAP was attacked viciously by the rabid mongrels of Umno. Despite the blackout by the BN controlled MSM, what's really happening on the ground is that there has been a sizable shift in Malay Muslim support away from Umno to DAP.Gone were the days when Umno could scare the Malays that the DAP is a Chinese Chauvinist party. One only needs to look across the Causeway in Singapore to see how Malay Muslims have benefited from the meritocracy system practiced by the Peoples Action Party (PAP). For those who are unaware, the DAP we know of today was then known as PAP. PAP in Malaysia became DAP after Singapore separated from Malaysia in 1965. The ideologies of both DAP and PAP are almost similar. By looking at Singapore, the Malay Muslims realized that the squeaky clean image of both DAP and PAP can bring them prosperity and peace unlike what Umno which is now seen as corrupt and a liability to the Malay Muslims. The success of the DAP led Penang Pakatan Rakyat Government has shown that the DAP can be trusted to look after the needs of the Malay Muslims compared to BN/Umno. In fact, though secular and socialist, the DAP appears to be more Islamic in its principles and practices than UMNO could ever be.

DAP appears to be gaining ground in seemingly uncharted territory: the Malays.

Despite having been around since the mid-60s, the party has been perceived as a predominantly Chinese-based party, causing many Malays to shy away from it.

This perception, however, according to DAP members, is changing, albeit slowly but surely.

Party member Zairil Khir Johari said that the DAP was only recently able to tap into the Malay grassroots after the 2008 general election.

“Before 2008, the Malay support for DAP was almost non-existent,” he said, adding that the alternative political choice was usually the Islamic-based PAS.

“If you joined the opposition, if you had problems with the government, the natural appeal would be PAS. They have (access to) the suraus and the mosques, which DAP does not have.

“Umno would have its ketua kampung (village chief), while PAS has the religious (advantage), but if the DAP wanted to open a branch in a village, it would be so artificial,” said Zairil, who is also DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng’s political secretary.

DAP’s lack of a large Malay support base for the past 40 years, Zairil claimed, was partially because it was an “urban-based” party; it was more attractive to the city-living Chinese.

The government’s control of the mainstream media did not help the party either.

According to Zairil, the Umno-linked Malay-based media groups such as Utusan Malaysia blacks out anything DAP-related, unless it was negative.

These factors, according to Zairil, made sure that even urban Malays were kept unaware of the DAP’s handiwork.

However, the party’s entry into the Pakatan Rakyat coalition, coupled with access to the alternative media, appears to have helped its position, Zairil claimed.

He said that the party has been able to open a few Malay branches in Penang, with forays into Perlis as well.

Though acknowledging that its Pakatan allies – PKR and PAS – were there to attract Malay voters, DAP president Karpal Singh said that the party needed to make its own effort in reaching out to the Malays.

“PKR and PAS are there, but we shouldn’t rely on them. We have to go ahead with our own Malay support. Recently, there have been some Malays who have joined us.”

“They’re not shying away from the DAP… but they’re not coming in at the extent that we’d want,” he said.

Karpal said that the DAP had seen some Malay representation over the years, such as through former Bayan Baru MP Ahmad Nor and current Senator Tunku Abdul Aziz Ibrahim.

Even so, he said these efforts into the Malay heartland were not enough.

Inroads into Dayak land

Yet, the Bukit Gelugor MP said that Malaysian politics was “taking a different form”, and used the non-Muslim PAS Supporter’s Club (PSC) as an example.

In 2004, PAS created the non-Muslim wing in order to attract non-Muslims into their fold.

The PSC boasts a membership of more than 20,000 Chinese, Indians and other races, although some reports have claimed that progress there has been slow.

Malays, according to Bandar Kuching MP Chong Chieng Jen, were not the only Bumiputeras the DAP was attracting in recent years.

He said that the party was “making inroads” into Sarawak’s Dayak community – a longtime Barisan Nasional stronghold – through the Dayak Consultative Council.

“We set up the council a month or two after the April 2011 Sarawak election, and it has helped us form policies taking care of the Dayaks, and within the Sarawak alternative budget,” he said.

DAP coverage in the alternative media, Chong added, also helped the party to move into previously untapped political areas.

“Until the last 10 years, we did not have the alternative media. But now, more Malays can read on the Internet (about us), especially the youngsters.”

“With more and more of them using the Internet, it shouldn’t be a problem, as long as they know about our policies and aren’t getting it from the Umno-controlled media,” he said.

For many years, Malaysia has enjoyed an image that suggests it to be a rapidly developing prosperous nation that is liberal and modern in its outlook and charitable towards all its residents.

Indians particularly marvel at its bright and clean cities with their many examples of modern construction. They also have the impression that unlike the Islamic states of the Gulf, Malaysia is a "secular" country. As a consequence, Malaysia attracts Indian tourists in very large numbers and is a particular favorite with the Gliterati Bollywood crowd.

But sadly, it has taken the HINDRAF (Hindu Rights Action Force) only one rally to expose the myth that is Malaysia. For all its pretence of being a secular nation, the despotic and heavy-handed manner in which a peaceful march was repressed - the cynical manner in which its brave and patient organizers were arrested (without charge and without recourse to due process) exposes the utter hollowness of Malaysian claims to "democracy". Democracy is not merely about rubber-stamping an election ballot every few years. It is also about a process in which all citizens must be free to communicate their genuine concerns - epsecially if they are as systematically discriminated against as are Malaysians of Indian (and mostly Tamil) descent.

Contrary to what one would normally expect from a genuinely secular and democratic nation, Malaysia has systematically practiced institutionalized religious, legal, economic and educational favoritism on behalf of its Malay "boomiputras" - a word that comes from the Sanskrit (bhoomi-putr) meaning son of the soil. Under the garb of "affirmative action" - Malaysians of Indian origin (who were brought to Malaysia by the British Colonizers as indentured servants - i.e. semi-slaves to work on the plantations) are systematically denied a comparable level of funding for educatiotion at all levels. Whereas "boomiputras" are given prefential treatment in government jobs and business contracts, Indo-Malaysians have to fend entirely for themselves.

Considering that the Indians arrived in Malaysia as near-slaves and performed all the most undesirable work, if anyone should have been beneficiaries of affirmative action, it should have been the Indo-Malaysians. To go on and on about the "poverty" of the "boomiputras" while ignoring the far greater historic and present disadvantages of the Indo-Malaysian is simply a cover for closet racism and religious chauvinism and intolerance (since the vast majority of Indo-Malays are Hindus). In fact, as the Star Online (Sep 30, 2005) revealed, Indians continue to earn much less than the national average. Several poor Indian families survive on less than 4$ a day (i.e. less than a third of the average per capita income). The Economist (22/2/2003) revealed that Indians comprise 60% of urban squatters and 41% of all beggars.

Yet, Muslims and Hundu liberals of the Indian sub-continent often point to Malaysia as an example of an Islamic-majority nation that can also respect its minorities. Indeed?!

Consider that when UMNO Youth wanted to have a raucous protest (without permits) just a few days before the HINDRAF protest -they were allowed to have their way on the streets. No one was arrested, there was no teargas, and no governamental outrage. Whereas at entirely peaceful HINDRAF rallies, the government has used teargas right from the get-go and police have beaten participants including women and children. When young girls tried to present roses as peace offerings to the violent policemen, they were coldly refused and the beatings on the rallyists continued. So much for Malaysia's liberal image.

However, police brutality towards Indians is hardly new. Every year, one reads of Indians working in Malysia who are sumamrily rounded up as though they were illegal aliens even when they had all their documents and were hired by government-approved Malaysian corporations. Rarely ever have such Indians even recieved a formal apology let alone compensation for the insult, inconvenience and psychological terror meted out on them.

But police brutality is a life-threatening reality of Malaysia's citizens of Indian-origin. HINDRAF has noted how 60% of crime "suspects" shot dead before trial by the Malaysian police have been Indians. 60% of custodial deaths (of citizens detained without charge or trial) are of Indians. The suicide rate of Indians is ten times that of Malays.

Unfortunately the mainstream Indian media has done a very poor job of exposing the systematic ethnic discrimination that takes place in Malaysia. Consider the facts: Of the 5 major Malaysian banks, only ONE is multi-racial. The rest are controlled by the "poor" Malays. The directors of Malaysia oil-giant PETRONAS are virtually all Malays. Virtually all PETRONAS gas stations are owned by the "poor" Malays. All contractors working for PETRONAS must also be Malays (after all, they are all so poor). Malay businesses are NOT required by law to hire any non-Malays. But Chinese-led businesses are required by law to hire at least 30% Malays. No quotas for Indians however. Only 5% of new intake for
the police or army (or even nurses) are non-Malays. Business licenses for taxis and other small businesses have only been granted to Malays in recent years, and 95% of government contracts have gone to Malays even though they comprise just slightly above 50% of the population.

Between 1968 and 2000, 144 Indian primary schools and 48 Chinese primary schools were deliberately closed. At the same time, 2637 primary schools were built exclusively for Malays. Of Malaysia's education budget, less than 1% goes to Indian schools even though Indians comprise approximately 8% of the population - a sharp drop from 12% in 1957. In other words in 50 years, Malaysia's racism has driven out every third Indian from the country. The Chinese-origin population has meanwhile dropped by half to now roughly a quarter. In the period that half a million Indians left Malaysia, 3 million Indonesian citizens were naturalized and given "boomiputra" status. In other words, Indians who had been in Malaysia for almost a century are still not considered sons (or daughters) of the soil, but Indonesians not even born in Malyaysia can be considered "bumiputras".

Every Malay (rich or poor) is given a 5-15% discount to buy a home. The Malaysian government has never built a church or a temple in housing estate. But every housing estate that it builds comes with a mosque.

Taken in its totality, one cannot but help observe that the economic practices of the Malysian government greatly resemble the medieval practice of Jizya that Islamic invaders imposed on all "infidels". In fact, this is not surprising because every Muslim Malay is subject to the Shariat code. In case of disputes between Islamic Malays and non-Muslims, Shariat law takes precedence. This means that even Hindu or Buddhist or Christian or non-religious Indians and Chinese must submit to the Shariat if they ever have the misfortune of displeasing a Muslim Malay.

Malaysians Citizens Against Racism and Discrimination have noted how the Malaysian government has repeatedly refused to accede to demands to abandon its systematic policies of discrimination towards non-Malays and non-Muslims.

Hindus in Malaysia are particularly incensed that even as the Malaysian government has a policy of building mosques in every housing estate it builds for the Malays, it has torn down hundreds of temples built by Tamils on private or plantation lands that were built by their own sweat and by their own initiative. Temples have even been demolished while devotees were still praying inside.

As many on-line bloggers note: "Malays automatically get on a platter what is denied to other communities."

Perhaps, the real tragedy of Malaysia's Indians is not just that they have been victims of such pervasive discrimination but that it has taken so long for it to be revealed to the whole world. What must be especially galling for Malaysia's Indians must be how they have received so little support and help from their mother country. Even as the brave and courageous leaders of HINDRAF languish in custody, the Indian government has remained cynically silent and is on the verge of negotiating a "Free Trade" deal.

This abominable betrayal of a community in distress typifies the present political make-up of the Indian nation. The Congress and its allies and all the liberals in the mainstream media bend over backwards to hide the truth and keep trumpeting how the Malaysian state is a "liberal", "secular" and "friendly" state. Perhaps it says something about how the Indian Congress views "secularism". Positive discrimination in favor of Muslims is fine, but god forbid if non-Muslims - whether they be Hindus, Buddhists or non-religious demand fairness and justice.

The truth is that the Malaysian state - beneath a veneer of "democracy" is actually far more autocratic than Indians realize. It is practising the same type of "divide and conquer" stratagems that the British so perfected during colonial rule. The silence of Malaysia's ASEAN neighbors is also perhaps revealing - how ASEAN is mostly about capitalism and helping the region's capitalists thrive. It is not about ensuring the human rights and dignity of all of the citizens of the ASEAN countries.

ASEAN countries have yet to chastize Malaysia for the enormous inequities that exist in the country. For instance, Islam is the ONLY official state religion. While Malaysia's Muslims are free to propagate Islam and convert non-Muslims to Islam, non-Muslims are provided no such freedoms. In fact, they are strictly enjoined NOT to try and convert Muslims to other faiths. In most provinces, attempting to convert a Muslim can lead to lengthy jail terms and whippings.

Children of inter-faith marriages are automatically treated as Muslims. What is more , in most cases, a Muslim Malaysian cannot even voluntarily give up his or her Islamic faith. In a Nov 19, 2006 article in the New Straits Times, it was reported that in Perak, Malacca, Sabah, Trengannu and Pahang conversion is a criminal offense even punishable by a jail term. In Pahang, converts may even be punishhed by being caned.

Mosques routinely use loudpseakers to call Muslims to prayer which can be at 5:30 in the morning - hours before offical businesses open. When the Malaysian Bar Council described this practice as unnecessary and disturbing, this was condemned.

The Malaysia tax code is also discriminatory. Muslims are given tax breaks that other communities do not get. Moreover, in most provinces, a Muslim may not make a will that favors any person "opposed" to Islam. The latter prescription is easily distorted to prevent non-Muslims from inheriting anything from a Muslim.

The Shariat laws also permit widespread censorship on any film or literature that might even indirectly annoy Muslim sentiment. Malaysian law also requires mandatory IDs that state a person's religion. Recently, a Malaysian Minister decried how too many "effeminate" men were entering Malaysian universities.Some fear that it was presumably to lay the ground for mandatory beards on campus. Others fear that this was intended intimidate ir target young men who might be perceived as gay or bisexual.

But discrimination at Malaysia's Universities extends at many levels. For instance, Malaysia's Open University has weaker admission requirements for "bumiputras". Some years back, it was revealed that Malaysia's universities rejected 500 top-scoring non-Malays, even as it failed to fill 7000 slots that had been reserved exclusively for Malays. For instance, Malaysian universities have a goal of ensuring that 75% of their students are "bumiputras" even though their total population is only now roughly 60%. Websites for several universities openly state their pro-bumiputra focus. According to some studies, non-Malay faculties have shrunk to possibly as low as 5%. Because of negative admission quotas imposed on Indians, a medical education for an Indian in Malaysia is almost impossible.

SEAPA (South East Asian Press Alliance) has noted how the atmosphere at Malaysian universities stifles any form of legitimate dissent. Malaysian laws allow universities to prosecute students merely for speaking to the media without permission from designated authorities. They may not join political parties, or even start their own political action groups. On entry, they must take a pledge of obedience to the government.

In 2003, the Chinese Language Society was suspended because its members campaigned against a law that permitted detention without trial. Students were suspended for expressing their views on native language education. In 2001,
Choo Chon Kai - a chemistry topper was suspended for possessing and selling badges to protest the detention-without-trial law. The same law that has been used against HINDRAF leaders. Unfortunately, there is also a huge paucity of lawyers to defend Indians who are arrested far more frequently than any other Malaysian.

As things stand, the Indian community in Malaysia faces enormous obstacles in its struggle for justice. Without support from its Indian brethren and genuine human rights activists around the globe, their battle is likely to be a very arduous one.

We can only hope that more Indians begin to express solidarity with Malaysia's Indians and other discriminated communities and call upon the Indian government to exert maximum pressure on the Malaysian government to reform itself. Malaysia's odious practices must be widely exposed and the government lambasted for its obnoxious treatment of its Indian citizens.

PENANG INVADED BY MAT (STUPID) REMPITS!

It appears that Penang has been invaded by Mat (Stupid) Rempit. These motorcycle hoodlums are believed to be from outside Penang with their motorcycles bearing Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Johore and Perak number plates. In what appears to be an all Malay youth posse, these Mat Rempits do not follow traffic rules. Their actions, such as riding dangerously, riding through red traffic lights or riding on the wrong side of the road. Many of these hoodlums appear to head for Batu Ferringhi where they appear to have made the Batu Ferringhi Petronas Station their base much to the annoyance of locals.

An interesting fact to note here is that all these Mat Rempits appear to wear the same type of T-Shirt which is either red or blue. They have been in Penang since Christmas and have been causing much annoyance to Penangites and tourists as well with their uncouth behavior. Penang does not need such characters who appear to be sponsored by a certain political entity.

Meanwhile as the old Malay proverb goes siapa makan cili dia akan rasa pedas, well this was the case of the fake Malay Mahathir Mohamed. Read below what happened:

Last week, Dr Mahathir gave a speech in India which stirred one Indian activist to retort in an open letter to the doctor.

Dear Dr Mahathir,
A couple of days back I woke up to newspaper reports which quoted you as saying that India’s democracy is a hindrance to its development and, if we did away with the nuisance of democracy, we will become developed.
Well, sir, it is heartening to see your concern about India’s future, especially now that our own elected government has orphaned us. To read that someone from the outside cares about our development sounds so very nice.
But you see, sir, your (apparently) good intentions notwithstanding, your advice to Indians is, well how should I put it… ill-advised.
I’m not really sure if you know much about the history of our nation. Don’t get me wrong.
Going by facts like the general absence of news from Malaysian newspapers;
the absence of anything but song and dance in your electronic media;
the absence of bookstores that sell knowledgeable books (for example, ones from
which you can learn about history and not how to get rich in six steps);
the abundance of malls and the stark absence of libraries;
the abundance of coaching centres that can make masseurs, air hostesses and a host of
quick-fix technicians and the relative absence of centres of higher learning especially in the social sciences; and,
above all, the fact that this insanely consumerist and hedonist Malaysia was made under your tutelage, makes me doubt your knowledge of the history of India or any nation for that matter.
So allow me to apprise you of the story of our independence.
We won independence from colonial rulers waging a long and tortuous battle. A battle that sought to replace a discriminatory, unjust and violent regime that had enslaved huge populations with one which was based on the principles of liberty, equality and fraternity.
India was home then, as is now and as will always be, to an immense diversity of people who spoke different tongues, prayed to different Gods, wore different clothes and had different political beliefs. These diverse people said to each other that – we, despite our differences, will strive to live and flourish together and make a sovereign nation which will be democratic, socialist and secular.
We did not anywhere say that we want to be Malaysia or for that matter China or the US.
In India, no one is above the law
We want to become a nation with a system that treats all its citizens as equal unlike your country that officially accords special rights to Malay Muslims calling them first-class citizens while relegating thousands of people of Tamil, Chinese and other ethnic origins.
Despite the fact that they have known no other land than Malaysia as their own, you denigrate them with the tag of being second-class citizens.
We try to work towards having a system wherein a person will grow according to his merit and hard work earning what she or he has rightfully earned.
You may be surprised to know that here in India making cartels based on identity, even if under the name of a holy cow called “Bumipuetra” or son of the soil is looked down upon by most of us.
Here, promoting the selective interests of one’s self or that of his kin is called corruption and nepotism and not, as you call it, development.
We are in fact fighting tooth and nail to arrest the scourge of corruption and (you’ll be shocked to know) get the guilty punished.
Here in India no one is above the law and many a times powerful public figures go to jail for being corrupt or subverting the law.
Now that we are at it, sir, I’m sure it would be interesting to know what the minorities of your country have to say – especially the jailed and beaten ones – about the development-democracy debate.
In fact, sir, your idea of development is largely at odds with many of us here.
Development is no substitute for values
What you did to the tropical forests and water bodies of Malaysia (that is, raze vast acres of them into oblivion to make way for big-buck oil palm plantations and piggeries and so on) would cause huge outrage among many of us who are looking for sustainable development.
We are yet to be unanimously convinced that making cemented roads – however broad, lining them with buildings, even if glass-covered and glossy, and putting cars on them, however fast – is a substitute for our valued bio-diversity.
Many of us are very convinced that displacing huge populations of native people for useless things like racing tracks is a blot on the word “development”.
There are many of us who find it a shameful and cruel hypocrisy that while your country has abundant and openly advertised sex tourism, it still whips women for being licentious!
Thanks to the culture of reading here, many of us know of your penchant for cruelty in your personal career.
A career during which you enacted despotic and violent acts at times in the name (your contorted version of) Islam and at times in the name of security and national interest.
We could recount how you rose to power annihilating huge numbers of your opponents and stayed there for over two decades, continuing your devious rule using tactics and schemes which are far beyond Machiavelli.
Many of us know about your vile Internal Security Act, which you used to crush political opposition – jailing them and putting in place a frail and near-sham democracy and placing the entire nation under a one-man rule of Umno for over two decades.
You will note that I have used words like “most of us”, “many of us” and have tried to stay away from absolute claims.
Misconstrued understanding of ‘development’
Besides the age-old Indian practice of accommodating different opinions, it is meant to recognise that there are people in this country, too, who think like you and will have applauded you for saying what you did.
They, too, think that roads are all that important and not the humans who walk on them or the ones who sleep beside them.
They have misconstrued the word development as development of personal wealth and that this “development” is a holy cow and everything including the rights and lives of fellow humans is of lesser priority.
Their money power helps them buy a lot of print space and electronic bandwidth so they may appear like the majority, but thankfully the truth is they aren’t.
The majority of us recognise and are willing to admit – and even discuss at length – that there are problems in our nation – including bad roads.
But they’ll quickly add that we intend to solve those not by lessening democracy but by increasing it.

This will be a participatory MASS FLASHMOB, symbolically expressing our common indignation against the many injustices and anti-democratic events that happened in Malaysia in 2011, in contrast to the positive significance of 2011 for the rest of the world. We want to collectively say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH; TIME FOR REAL DEMOCRACY NOW, in 2012!

'V' masks at Dataran Merdeka symbolize resistance against authoritarianism

2011 will go down in history as the Year of Peaceful, Non-Violent Revolutions. It began in Tunisia, culminating in Tahrir Square, Egypt, now undeniably THE iconic image and symbol of human freedom and liberation of the 21st Century. We also saw the uprising of the Indignados (The Indignant movement), occupying Puerta del Sol in Madrid, Spain, giving inspiration to the Occupy Wall Street movement, that began on September 17th. This democratic wave, driven by ordinary peoples on the street, as opposed to leadership by elites the world over, is destined to become the Revolution that will OCCUPY the hearts and minds of the 7 billion persons on earth today, for generations to come.

Occupy Dataran, inspired by these events, began to occupy Dataran Merdeka, on a weekly basis, since July 30th 2011. We have been committed to this ideal of embodying the kind of change we want to see in wider Malaysian society, to practice and model a new form of grassroots, non-partisan, non-hierarchical, participatory form of direct democracy, right here in Malaysia. Our Assemblies, meeting every Saturday at Dataran Merdeka, is the concrete actualization of Direct Democracy and Open Participation by Anyone and Everyone, without regard for race, creed or wealth.

As the year 2011 draws to a close, dark clouds still hang over the Malaysian sky, no different from the previous years. Undemocratic repression of human rights continue unabated. Malaysians suffer these abuses in different forms and at different levels. It is often hard for the ordinary Malaysian to articulate and give voice to their suffering and plight. Occupy Dataran wants to provide that space and platform for all to channel their outrage and indignation in constructive and meaningful ways. We want every person to find his or her own voice, formulating his or her own demands. Some of these demands may spring from this year’s chronology of injustices: the repression of street protests (eg. Bersih 2.0), the passing of the Peaceful Assembly Bill 2011, the Lynas debacle, the continuous land-grab of Orang Asli & indigenous land in Sabah & Sarawak, corruption in government, exploitation and repression of local and migrant workers’ welfare & rights, deaths in the MACC, the suppression of academic and student freedoms by the UUCA, etc.

To mark the end of 2011 and the inception of the 2012 New Year, we are calling ALL to Occupy Dataran Merdeka with us on December 31st, 2011, at 11pm. We call on ALL to come wearing the mask of V, re-enacting the final dramatic scene from the movie, V for Vendetta. The V mask represents resistance against authoritarianism all over world. 1) To reclaim our public spaces and reclaim Dataran Merdeka as an open and democratic space for all peoples to assemble freely and peacefully;

2) To defend and reclaim the fundamental right to assemble peacefully, protest and to occupy our public spaces;

3) To protest against the Peaceful Assembly Bill 2011;

4) To show solidarity with all those who have suffered injustices and violation of their basic rights in 2011;

5) To show our resolve in making 2012 the year of real democratic changes in Malaysia, in all aspects, political, social and economic.

We CALL ON ALL to join us on 31st December 2011 and make our DEMANDS loud and clear at Dataran Merdeka.

As the 2.2 Billion Christians the world over prepare for the Solemnity of Christmas, their Jewish Brethren are also celebrating the Feast of Hanukkah. In 168 B.C.E. the Jewish Temple was seized by Syrian-Greek soldiers and dedicated to the worship of the god Zeus. This upset the Jewish people, but many were afraid to fight back for fear of reprisals. Then in 167 B.C.E. the Syrian-Greek emperor Antiochus made the observance of Judaism an offense punishable by death. He also ordered all Jews to worship Greek gods.

Jewish resistance began in the village of Modiin, near Jerusalem. Greek soldiers forcibly gathered the Jewish villages and told them to bow down to an idol, then eat the flesh of a pig – both practices that are forbidden to Jews. A Greek officer ordered Mattathias, a High Priest, to acquiesce to their demands, but Mattathias refused. When another villager stepped forward and offered to cooperate on Mattathias' behalf, the High Priest became outraged. Baginda bertitah kenyataan pensyarah Undang-Undang Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia (UIAM) itu adalah tidak tepat.

Tuanku turut menasihatkan Aziz agar tidak membuat sebarang kenyataan kerana ia mengundang kekeliruan dan keresahan di kalangan rakyat terhadap integriti MAIS dan Lembaga Zakat Selangor.

Titahnya, Aziz perlu mendapatkan fakta yang tepat dan betul sebelum mengeluarkan sebarang kenyataan.

“Beta sangat dukacita apabila dimaklumkan terdapat satu laporan yang menyatakan bahawa Prof Aziz ada membuat kenyataan bahawa akaun MAIS dan LZS tidak diaudit dan bebas daripada diaudit.

Aziz berkata demikian ketika diminta mengulas mengenai titah Sultan Selangor semua Adun meluluskan pindaan peruntukan Rang Undang-Undang Enakmen Pentadbiran Agama Islam (Negeri Selangor) (Pindaan) 2011 yang membolehkan MAIS mengelak dari diaudit oleh jawatankuasa audit awam.

Aziz yang juga seorang pakar perlembagaan berkata, perlembagaan tidak memberikan apa-apa kuasa kepada Sultan.

Beliau merujuk kepada Perlembagaan Persekutuan – Perkara 3 (2) dan Seksyen 1 (2) (d) Jadual Kelapan – dengan jelas menyatakan bahawa walaupun Sultan mempunyai kuasa budi bicara dalam hal Ehwal Islam dan Agama Melayu, namun ia tidak menyentuh aspek perundangan.

MAIS bidas laporan

Sementara itu, Selasa lalu MAIS menjelaskan dakwaan bahawa laporan kewangan tahunan tidak perlu diaudit adalah tidak tepat.

Pengerusi MAIS, Datuk Setia Mohamad Adzib Mohd Isa berkata laporan kewangan tahunan MAIS disatukan telah disediakan dan dikemukakan kepada Ketua Audit Negara setiap tahun dan MAIS dari 1997 hingga 2010 telah mendapat pengiktirafan sijil bersih melalui Sijil Ketua Audit Negara.

Beliau merujuk kepada laporan berita FMT berkenaan pindaan peruntukan Rang Undang-Undang Enakmen Pentadbiran Agama Islam (Negeri Selangor) (Pindaan) 2011.

Pada 10 November, FMT melaporkan bahawa pindaan peruntukan Rang Undang-Undang Enakmen Pentadbiran Agama Islam (Negeri Selangor) (Pindaan) 2011 membolehkan MAIS mengelak dari diaudit oleh jawatankuasa audit awam.

What's sickening and frightening is the fact that these products which are used to promote the popularity of Malaysian PM Najib Razak and his Evil BN/Umno Regime is going to kill countless numbers of Malaysians or leave many other Malaysians with serious health issues to deal with.

If this is not enough, we have this cheap stunt of offering RM 100 to all Malaysian students. We all know this is a vote getting gimmick of a failing Regime. If the government is sincere in wanting to give away the RM 100 to students, why then must it get schools to invite BN/Umno politicians to give away the money? Why don't the school authorities do it themselves without much fanfare? For example, the BN/Umno Assemblyman for Teluk Bahang, Penang will be giving away tomorrow the RM 100 to a selected group of students from SMK Teluk Bahang, SK Teluk Bahang and SJK Eok Hua (a Chinese primary school) at a ceremony at SMK Teluk Bahang in front of their parents. Isn't this a vote getting gimmick or what?

A laboratory test on Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia (KR1M) chilli sauce has revealed mercury and lead levels that breach the ceiling allowed by the Food Regulations 1985.

In a draft comparative product research report, the Malaysian Association of Standards Users (Standards Users) says, 3.64ppm of lead and 0.08ppm of mercury were found in the product.

The permitted levels are 2ppm of lead and 0.05ppm of mercury for chilli sauce.

The report compared the product to three other brands - Tesco Value, Life and Lingham - all of which were within permitted levels and were, in fact, significantly lower than the threshold.

Testing for the products was conducted by Unipeq Sdn Bhd, a company accredited by the Department of Standards under the Laboratory Accreditation Scheme.

Standards Users chief executive DN Ratna said her organisation has conducted such research for more than three years and decided to include the 1Malaysia products, since consumers are being encouraged to buy these.

The products tested were obtained from grocery shops and hypermarkets in the Klang Valley, between August and September.

Commenting on the results, Ratna urged the Health Ministry to immediately halt the sale of the 1Malaysia chilli sauce.

"This concerns heavy metals, (so the ministry) should hold (back) sales of the product until it verifies (our findings) with its own test. (It can then) take further action,” she said.

"The effect of heavy metal is poisoning. If somebody consumes the product over time, (the heavy metals) will accumulate in their hair, tissues and other parts of the body... If the person's health is vulnerable, then the (effects) will be manifested more quickly.”

According to the report, excess mercury can damage the central nervous system and the endocrine system, leading to potential kidney damage.

Lead intake can lead to vomiting and diarrhoea from short term exposure, while "ongoing exposure, to even very small amounts of lead, can be harmful, especially to infants and young children".

Contacted this afternoon, Mydin Mohamed Holdings Bhd managing director Ameer Ali Mydin said he is currently in a meeting and will revert with comments after looking into details of the allegation.

The wholesaler operates the network of low-end stores set up since June to help people to cope with the rising cost of living.

Tracing sources of contamination

Ratna said the group was still studying how the sauce had come to contain such high levels of heavy metal.

"There could be two sources of contamination. One is from the soil and the other is from pesticides... contamination from other vegetables can happen during transfer," she said.

The test further found the 1Malaysia chilli sauce to have breached food regulations for total soluble solids, recording only 23.9 percent of the total content instead of the required minimum of 25 percent.

In contrast, Tesco Value, Life and Lingham recorded 26.9 percent, 50.4 percent, and 66.5 percent respectively.

"This means the actual soluble solid contributed by the content of chilli and sugar is less, they've added thickeners to make it look like sauce," Ratna explained.

Checks on tomato sauce

The report also detailed a comparative study of three tomato sauce brands - 1Malaysia, Tesco Value, and Muslim Best.

Again, the 1Malaysia product failed the soluble solid test, recording only 23.8 percent instead of the 25 percent minimum requirement.

As for heavy metals, the report rays: "Although within limits, the 1Malaysia tomato sauce has the highest content of heavy metals and lowest content of total soluble solids."

In the report, the group calls on the Health Ministry to trace the source of heavy metals and ensure that the food supply chain is controlled so that food for human consumption is safe, from farm to table.

Special care is required during primary production, where pesticides and cross-contamination of raw materials are more likely to take place, according to the report.

The report by Standards Users, an affiliate of the Federation of Malaysian Consumers Associations (Fomca), is the first revelation of contraventions in 1Malaysia products by a consumer NGO, following a series of claims by DAP’s Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua.

Last week, Pua had charged that savings from KR1M products were exaggerated and that some products even contravened the Food Act 1983 and Food Regulations 1985.

Some of the more controversial products highlighted were the 1Malaysia Oyster Sauce, 1Malaysia Fresh Milk and 1Malaysia Growing Up Milk.

However, Mydin has rebutted most of Pua’s allegations, although it conceded that the complaint about the oyster sauce is valid and said rectification is under way.

Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia (KR1M) has pulled its milk powder off the shelves a day after it was claimed that the content violates requirements of the Food Regulations Act 1985.

In a statement on its website today, KR1M said the product had been temporarily removed, but did give any reason for this.

“KR1M milk powder supplier have [sic] been notified and products have been temporarily removed until further notice,” it says.

As for claims that its line of chilli sauce, which is claimed to contain exceedingly high levels of heavy metals, KR1M said the content of the product does not fun foul of the law.

“Currently lab tests from the supplier show the product formulation COMPLY [sic, emphasis by KR1M] with the Food Regulations Act,” it says.

Deputy Education Minister Mohd Puad Zarkashi has charged that MCA, MIC and Gerakan’s stance on the Teaching of Mathematics and Science in English (PPSMI) policy would undermine the Malay language.

“Their stance will weaken and erode the Malay language. They should not doubt the Education Ministry policy to strengthen the command of English through the MBMMBI (Upholding the Malay Language and Strengthening the English Language) which is far better than before,” he was quoted as saying in a Berita Harian report today.

Puad (right), according to the report, also questioned the Chinese and Indian-based parties for defending their mother tongue in the teaching of Mathematics and Science at their respective vernacular schools but advocated the English language in secondary national schools.

He added their stance looked as if the parties did not want the Malay language to be a medium for knowledge and unity.

“In the issue of PPSMI, there should not be any parties who adopt a double standard attitude,” he was quoted as saying.

In the report, he also dismissed the parties’ concern that the new MBMMBI policy would disrupt students’ learning process at secondary schools as illogical.

The PPSMI is expected to come to an end next year but some component parties within the ruling coalition have voiced support for certain groups which advocated the partial or optional continuation of the policy.

Among the prominent lobby group is the Parents Action Group for Education (Page) which has called on the government to allow certain urban schools the option to retain the PPSMI policy.

However, Education Minister Muhyiddin Yassin had yesterday declared that the matter has been decided upon in 2009 and is no longer open for negotiation.

The only way to implement the Islamic hudud law is by implementing it "by force", Malaysian National Defence University lecturer Ridhuan Tee Abdullah said today.

"To implement Islamic law and to educate non-Muslims (on Islam) can only be done by force," the associate professor told a forum entitled 'Hudud: Its dilemma and implementation' organised by Malay-language daily Sinar Harian in Shah Alam today.

Qualifying his assertion, Ridhuan said this is because the "negative attitude" of non-Muslims towards Islamic law makes it unlikely that they will voluntarily accept its implementation.

He related his own experience as being an ethnic Chinese from a staunchly Chinese family and observations and studies of non-Muslims and their perception of Malaysia's federal religion.

"I can say that from then (the past) till now, the perception of non-Muslims toward Islam hasn't improved."

He also cited studies that show that the perception of the Chinese, even amongst the educated, toward Islam and hudud is very unfavourable.

"It is said that when asked to pick between an Umno that is known to be corrupt and PAS that is known for its integrity, a Chinese would rather chose the corrupt Umno over PAS and the Islamic state," claimed Ridhuan.

He said with what he felt was serious fragmentation amongst Muslims despite being the majority, they neither had the clout nor the will to follow through with implementing hudud.

"We should have taken the chance to do so (implement Islamic law) after May 13 (1969)," he said.

He argued that at the time, momentum on the side of the Malay-Muslims presented the perfect opportunity to force the implementation of Islamic law.

‘Chinese receptive’

Another panellist, state exco member for religious affairs Mohd Amar Abdullah however said that PAS, in particular its government in Kelantan has other ideas on hudud.

"It is about a change of mindset. From viewing Islam as a ritual, to viewing Islam as a way of life.

"This is via implementing Islamic policies and educating the rakyat, in preparation for their acceptance of Islam and hudud," said Mohd Amar.

He explained that while the PAS led Kelantan government passed the hudud enactment in 1993, they did not implement it in toto immediately.

"We can compromise in the implementation," Mohd Amar said, adding that PAS' experience in Kelantan showed that unlike Ridhuan's assertation, non-Muslims are very receptive to explanations about hudud and Islam.

He explained that time is needed to ensure not only acceptance by the rakyat, but also that all the proper procedures and the nitty-gritty are spelled out in advance.

"The important thing now is to put hudud at its rightful place as a law, then we can work towards implementing it."

Hudud, he said, is not only about cutting off hands of thieves that most people equate it to, but involved a whole slew of other issues and considerations that show the true compassionate face of Islam.

"There is actually a twenty point checklist that will defer the punishment of amputation for thieves," he explained, such as sparing those who steal because of economic pressure and for thefts of goods that are low in value.

The issue of Islamic law and specifically its subset of hudud has been the point of contention for PAS that has pledged to implement Islamic law, to the cool reception from political ally the DAP.

The issue has been played up by the BN at the onset of most general elections, critics say, as the bogeyman had in the past used to scare non-Muslims into supporting the ruling coalition.

The Islamic rulers of Malaysia don't seem to realize that there are millions of Muslims in Malaysia and in other Muslim countries who have renounced Islam and have become Christians through a Baptism of Desire. For these Christians, they may look, sound and appear Muslim but their hearts are with Jesus Christ who is their Lord and Savior. People like Harussani Zakaria can only grind their teeth is despair but as you read this blog posting more Muslims are renouncing Islam around the world.

It is a shame that there are still Christian Malaysians who still support the Evil BN/Umno Regime. The non Muslim parties of the BN such as MCA, MIC, Gerakan, PRS, SUPP, PBDS, PBS, UPKO, PPP, LDP etc need to be shunned and rejected by Christians for their tacit approval of Umno's demonic persecution of Christians in Malaysia.

Influential cleric Harussani Zakaria, the Perak mufti and the person who proposed the introduction of an anti-apostasy law, is one of the main speakers to this Saturday’s symbolic Himpunan Sejuta Umat (A million people gathering).

The event’s co-chairperson Dr Yusri Mohamad said that besides Harussani, he and co-chairperson Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid, who is also the Malaysian Islamic Consultative Council chairperson, will also deliver speeches.

“Harussani is one of the speakers slated to deliver his address at the gathering, where we hope to attract more than 100,000 people nationwide to come to the Shah Alam stadium,” said Yusri.

“Besides representatives from the non-governmental organisations, Indonesian religious scholar Yusuf Mansur will also deliver a talk. However, Senator Ezam Mohd Nor and Bandar Kulim Baru MP Zulkifli Nordin are not among the listed speakers although we invited all non-governmental organisations to participate,” he told Malaysiakini.

Harussani was the person who proposed the formation of an anti-apostasy law to punish those responsible for Muslims leaving the religion. The Perak cleric said its formation is vital, following apostasy being described as a virus affecting Muslims.

The Perak mufti’s idea was supported by various religious scholars including Kelantan mufti Mohamad Shukri Mohamad, who recently commented on enforcement to preserve the belief of Muslims.

The four-hour gathering beginning at 2pm is aimed at preserving “the belief of the ummat”.

More than 29 NGOs have confirmed participation in the gathering, and among them are Gabungan Penasyid Malaysia (Malaysia religious singers group), Allied Coordinating Committee of Muslim NGOs, and Persatuan Ulama Malaysia (Malaysian Religious Scholars Association).

Yusri added that the gathering is non-partisan and it sought to seek the support of all Muslims against those resorting to change their faith.

“That is why we have also invited PAS Youth, Umno Youth and Wanita Umno to participate. We welcome Muslims from all walks of life to attend,” he said.

How many have renounced Islam?

When asked how many former Muslims were there who had renounced the religion, Yusri said he cannot remember off hand, but said this is cited in an Utusan Malaysia report today.

According to Muslim convert and scholar Mohd Ridhuan Tee Abdullah in his Utusan Malaysia column today, statistics show that 168 applications were approved for people to renounce the religion.

“According to another source there are 685 applications, of which 135 had been approved. Sabah is the highest with 67 and this is followed by Negri Sembilan with 33,” he said.

Harussani was also reported in 2008 as saying that the number of Muslims in Malaysia who renounced Islam was 260,000.

Yesterday, Bernama quoted Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin wanting the various state Islamic councils to discuss together on the proposal to have an anti-apostasy law.

Muhyiddin said the power is with the state governments to enact laws not to allow non-Muslims to spread their religion to Muslims.

“Whatever punishment which is to be made must be agreed to by all... if not it would create problems. From what I know there are states which already have existing enactments to prevent non-Muslims from spreading their religion.”

“If there is unison among the states, the law should be formulated so it would not conflict with the powers of the federal government,” said the deputy prime minister.

‘Explain the present situation’

Yusri added that the objective of the event is to explain the actual scenario and not what was reported in the media, and also to evaluate the unity of Muslims following the Aug 3 incident at the Damansara Utama Methodist Church.

He said it is also to inform society of the need for religious debate and not allow the matter to be politicised. It is also to strengthen Muslim belief, to create awareness over the provisions in the federal constitution and for the palace to be given a role to resolve it.

“The main theme of the event is to focus on efforts to convert Muslims to Christianity, its effect and challenges in a multi-racial society,” he said, adding that the event would have nasyid (religious songs) performances and would conclude with the drafting of a joint declaration.

POOR Fulham. Despite thoroughly thrashing Tony Fernandes’ Queens Park Rangers 6-0, all the sports headlines were about the other London derby where Tottenham Hotspur edged Arsenal 2-1. I suppose it is all about perception; just what is important and what is not.

As much as I would like to think that the game at White Hart Lane is an indication that the power in North London has shifted to Seven Sisters road, I am ever cautious and am reminded of the saying that a swallow does not a summer make.

Although I suppose in the case of the Spurs-Arsenal rivalry, considering that we have beaten them three times in the last four league clashes, it just may be there is more than one swallow fluttering about.

However, I digress. My earlier point remains and that is the perception of what is important and what is not.

At the moment, there are all sorts of news stories floating about and they point towards one thing, elections.

PAS has once again raised the hudud issue. Frankly, I am not too worried about this matter.

Pakatan Rakyat has stated that they will not go on with hudud unless all the component parties agree.

This seems highly unlikely as DAP will never agree and I am sure there are some voices in Keadilan too who will not be comfortable with hudud.

However, if they do try to introduce it, I will most certainly object.

The reason why I object is encapsulated in Hadi’s (PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang) statement in the press on the matter (if it was accurately reported) where he said that hudud cannot be questioned.

Whoa there, “cannot be questioned”? I am sorry, if you have personal beliefs that affect only you and you won’t question them, that’s all fine and dandy.

But if you are going to introduce something into the public sphere, something that will affect the lives of the citizens, I don’t care if the source of what you are introducing is divine, it jolly well better be questioned.

And I don’t care if you say I have no degree from Al-Azhar and no goatee to go along with it, I will question any law that any government wants to introduce.

This has been my problem with any religion-based law making, the idea that simply because it is divine in origin means it can’t be questioned. In a democracy, if we can’t question the laws that affect our lives, then it is not a democracy at all.

And then there is poor Mat Sabu; charged with criminal defamation for questioning the heroism of the policemen who fought at Bukit Kepong.

I checked the Penal Code and sure enough, criminal defamation can be committed against the dead.

It’s a bit weird because how far back does this provision extend? I mean in historical matters there will always be different perspectives and differing opinions based on new findings and discoveries.

In case the Government decides to charge me with criminal defamation for questioning the character of one of our early leaders, let me use an American example.

Thomas Jefferson; renaissance man who helped draft the American Constitution and ensured a modern democracy where all men were created equal, or a shameless hypocrite slave owner who fathered numerous children with his female slaves?

Both views are correct and depending on your own take on history the view that will take precedence will differ.

And surely that was what Mat Sabu’s statement was; his take on history.

Was it insensitive, probably, should he be prosecuted for it, I don’t think so.

However, all these issues are really not that important to me. I think they are just the usual sound and fury that come with politicians posturing in the light that elections are coming.

The real important story for now should be the Budget and more importantly the alternative budget that the Pakatan has unveiled.

It is really good to see Pakatan acting like they have a Shadow Cabinet (although they don’t have one really).

We need to see concrete counter proposals from the opposition to not only help us question the Government’s Budget but also to assess the alternatives which a different government could give. This is vital in a mature democracy.

I certainly hope that discussions in the next couple of weeks will be about comparing the two budgets for surely that is more important than a hudud law which is unlikely to be implemented and Mat Sabu’s supposed lack of patriotism.

The Umno Bandar Tun Razak Secretary, Zaharin Mohd Yasin who Blogs under the Blog name Sang Kelembai vented the anger and showed the deep divisions and disunity within Umno when he called DPM Muhyiddin Yassin an UGLY SON OF A PARIAH AND A GREAT PIRATE who is out to topple PM Najib Razak. He called Muhydeen a GREAT PIRATE who hides his evil intentions behind the facade of Islam and the Malay race. It is no secret that Muhyiddin is backed by former PM Mahathir Mohamed to oust Najib so that when Muhyiddin moves up as PM, Mahathir's son Mukhriz Mahathir will become DPM as Muhyiddin's role is to keep the PM's chair warm enough for Mahathir Junior to become PM.

Apa yang ditulis Zaharin menunjukkan politiking dalam Umno memang hebat. Sentiasa panas dan bergolak. Selalunya kemelut dalaman Umno tidak diketahui rakyat kerana ia dapat disembunyikan oleh media tali barut Umno. Bila dibongkarkan satu-persatu mereka kata, ianya hanya ibarat 'ribut dalam secawan kopi.'

Ribut dalam Umno kali ini memang hebat dan tidak dapat dibendung. Ia diluahkan dan didedahkan secara terbuka oleh bloger-bloger dan facebookers Umno. Laman sosial FB menjadi tempat mereka melepaskan geram terhadap seteru politik dalam Umno.

Zaharin begitu berani mengambil risiko menghentam dan mengecam Timbalan Presiden Umno yang juga Timbalan Perdana Menteri, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Muhyiddin digelar sebagai anak paria, penyamun besar dan perosak Umno. Lebih hodoh lagi, Zaharin yang juga Setiausaha Umno Bahagian Bandar Tun Razak mendakwa beliau ada maklumat bahawa Muhyiddin terbabit hendak menjatuhkan Perdana Menteri, Dato' Seri Mohd Najib Tun Razak.

Dalam tulisannya di laman FB, Zaharin berkata, beliau akan mendedahkan hal tersebut tidak lama lagi.

Zaharin melepaskan geramnya kepada Muhyiddin dipercayai kerana terdapat usaha TPM selaku Pengerusi Umno untuk meletakkan 'orangnya' menggantikan beliau sebagai Setiausaha Umno Bahagian.

Malah dalam laman FBnya, Zaharin terus menyerang Muhyiddin kerana melantik orang-orang bermasalah dan yang jelas terbabit dalam politik wang seperti Dato' Mokhtar Samad dan Amil Salleh di bahagian tersebut.

Menulis mengenai Zaharin bukan bermakna menyokong beliau. Sebab Zaharin memang jenis out-spoken. Dalam posting beliau selalu menyerang PAS dan Pakatan Rakyat. Timbalan Presiden PAS, Mohamad Sabu dan Ketua Umum KeADILan, Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim sering menjadi 'ulam' beliau.

Saya ketepikan soal serangan Zaharin terhadap Pakatan Rakyat buat seketika. Yang penting sekarang bukan soal Zaharin sebagai penulis dalam blog atau FB. Beliau ada jawatan. Selaku Setiausaha Umno Bahagian dan Setiausaha BN Bahagian, kuasanya agar besar dan berpengaruh. Beliau juga terbabit sebagai AJK Umno Wilayah Persekutuan.

Oleh kerana itu serangan dan kecaman beliau terhadap TPM memang ada weight yang tersendiri. Sebab apa seorang yang berjawatan sanggup menyerang Timbalan Presiden Umno yang juga Pengerusi Umno negeri? Kata-kata yang dihamburkan pula bukannya kritikan biasa.

Gelaran 'anak paria' terhadap Muhyiddin yang berbangsa Melayu dan beragama Islam adalah sedahsyat-dahsyat gelaran. Jika ada kalangan orang India pun tidak setuju jika ungkapan paria digunakan kepada mereka walaupun ia ada dalam kamus mereka, inikan pula orang Melayu-Islam menerima geralan sedemikian.

'Anak paria' yang dikatakan Zaharin bukan sekadar paria, dia adalah penyamun besar, pembela golongan rasuah dan bermasalah dalam Umno. Lebih dahsyat lagi 'anak paria' itu dituduh merancang hendak menjatuhkan PM kesayangan Zaharin.

Sudah tentu serangan Zaharin terhadap Muhyiddin tidak dapat diterima juak-juak Muhyiddin. Melalui blog Cucu Tok Selampit mereka menyerang Zaharin dan menggesa Umno memecatnya.

Zaharin kata blog tersebut sebagai politikus yang tidak bermaruah. Zaharin dituduh menyerang bekas PM, Dato' Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi dan kemudian mencium tangan Abdullah selepas mendapat habuan yang dikehendaki. Gambar Zaharin memeluk dan mencium tangan Abdullah juga disiarkan mereka.

Bloger Umno yang marah dengan Zaharin mendakwa beliau menjalankan politik 'peras ugut'. Zaharin didakwa memeras ugut ahli politik (termasuk TPM), kemudian mereka diminta 'menghulurkan habuan' jika serangan terhadap mereka hendak dihentikan.

Bloger Umno yang tidak puashati dengan kecaman Zaharin terhadap Muhyiddin, terus menyerang beliau dan mendakwa Zaharin mempunyai kelaku yang amat buruk. Kata mereka Zaharin tidak layak menjadi ahli Umno kerana banyak komen-komennya merosakkan Umno.

Membaca komen-komen yang diposting mereka naik tergelak dibuatnya. Macamlah mereka yang duduk dalam Umno suci macam Malaikat Jibril.

Saya tidak perlu cenderung untuk membela sesiapa dalam Umno dalam perbalahan ini. Mereka hendak tuduh, hendak kata apa pun kepada seteru mereka, itu urusan mereka. Hanya mereka sahaja yang tahu dan faham perangai orang-orang Umno.

Yang jelas, tujuan saya mengutarakan isu ini, lebih kepada untuk menyedarkan rakyat dan mendedahkan kepada rakyat, bahawa Umno itu memang hodoh dan teruk. Perbalahan dalaman mereka memang teruk dna tidak mampu dibaiki lagi.

Persoalan yang harus dijawab oleh Umno hari ini bukan soal siapa Zaharin, atau apa buruk baik kelakunya. Yang tidak boleh dinafikan orang Umno ialah, didakwa wujudnya satu usaha yang didalangi Timbalan Presiden Umno untuk menjatuhkan Presiden Umno. Itu isu yang sebenarnya.

Yang menuduh atau membangkitkan isu ini bukan orang PAS. Bukan juga orang Pakatan Rakyat. Yang menuduh Muhyiddin hendak menjatuhkan Najib adalah dari kalangan Umno sendiri. Apa yang dibuat Muhyiddin, siapa penyokongnya dan bagaimana cara beliau hendak jatuhkan Najib, kita tunggu pendedahan dari orang Umno seterusnya.

Cuma yang hendak kita katakan kepada orang-orang Umno-BN, kami dari Pakatan Rakyat, sama ada yang meneraju negara itu Najib atau Muhyiddin, tidak penting bagi kami. Asalkan sahaja nama mereka Umno-BN, kami bertekad akan tumbangkan mereka pada PRU yang akan datang. Insya Allah.

Mat Sabu charged with criminal defamation

Malaysia is telling the whole World that we are going to be a developed nation by the year 2020. PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu was this morning charged with criminal defamation in a Butterworth Sessions Court for challenging the official account of the 1950 Bukit Kepong incident at a ceramah in Tasek Gelugor on Aug 21.

Mohamad, better known as Mat Sabu, was charged under Section 500 of the Penal Code for defaming the dead police personnel who were killed while defending themselves at the Bukit Kepong police station and their families (principal charge), and the aggrieved parties (alternative charge) who lodged police reports against him.

Judge Ikmal Hishan Mohd Tajuddin fixed Oct 27 for mention of the case and Dec 5-9 for trial.

Bail was set at RM15,000.

Mohammad Hanafiah Zakaria, Ishak Mohd Yusoff and Suhaimi Ibrahim are prosecuting, while Hanipa is Maidin is appearing for Mat Sabu.

Mohammad Hanafiah had initially asked for bail to be fixed at RM50,000 but Hanipa requested the minimum sum of RM15,000, saying he was confident his client would be present in court whenever required.

Asked to comment, Mat Sabu said: "This case is about the interpretation of history and should be resolved through dialogue and debate, not by the court.

"However, since it is a court case, we have to face it."

'Government losing ground among youth'

Mat Sabu said the government was losing ground among the youth and had to deal with him by using physical force and legal means.

On Aug 27, Umno-owned daily Utusan Malaysia published several reports that Mat Sabu had praised the communists who attacked the Bukit Kepong police station in 1950, leaving 26 people dead.

"But history has been covered up. Jins Samsuddin, who made the (Bukit Kepong) film, is an Umno (member). His story of Bukit Kepong (said that) those who attacked the police station were criminals..." Mat Sabu was quoted as saying.

The reports further alleged that the PAS deputy president had treated Mat Indera as a freedom fighter.

Mat Sabu has since claimed that Utusan had grossly distorted his words and has filed a defamation suit against Utusan Malaysia.

His speech also sparked debate between BN and the opposition on the country's independence history and whether Malaya was ever colonised.

The long-serving former Malaysian premier Mahathir Mohamad says Arab Muslims are incapable of carrying out the 9/11 attacks on the United States that killed nearly 3,000 people.

The ageing firebrand, who was in power in Malaysia at the time of the attacks and stepped down in 2003 after 22 years in power, slammed former US president George W. Bush ahead of the 10-year anniversary Sunday of 9/11.

Washington blames the attacks on Al-Qaeda.

“Bush lied about Saddam’s weapons of mass destruction… If they can lie so as to kill Iraqis, Afghans and American soldiers, it is not unthinkable for Bush & Co. to lie about who was responsible for 9/11,” the 86-year-old wrote in his blog Friday.

PAS leaders ridiculed the views of a historian who yesterday claimed that Malaysia had never been colonised, saying such statements were aimed at misleading the rakyat.

Party president Abdul Hadi Awang said such “polemics” was being raised now to “fool the rakyat” and shift public attention on the many problems with the electoral system.

“In effect, people are being fooled so that they won't think about the cases of electoral fraud (recently raised).

“Thinking about issues from 40, 60 years ago, (the people) won't think about issues of today. In fact, those old issues should have been long settled,” said Hadi Awang at a press conference this morning.

He also agreed with the view that such polemics over our Independence history was deliberately being played up to portray that only Umno has fought for the Malays.

“We hope that the Malays do not get fooled by these 60-year-old issues.

“And what of the issue 700 to 800 years ago, when the Portuguese arrived and no one opposed them?

“It is as if the only ones who put up a fight against the colonisers were Umno,” said Hadi.

“I have studied history as well. In those days, there was no Umno and no PAS, but people were already fighting the colonisers,” he added.

Hadi was speaking after launching the PAS forum on their welfare state manifesto at Taman Melewar, Gombak, Kuala Lumpur this morning.

Yesterday, the Sultan Idris Teaching University (UPSI) head of history Zainal Kling claimed that it was untrue that Malaysia had been colonised by the British, who only gave us their “protection”.

He claimed that only Singapore, Malacca and Penang were British colonies.

PAS information chief Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said such academics who are now weighing in on the Mat Indera issue should instead be helping the people understand the episode in history.

He echoed Hadi's sentiments, likening Umno to a “Hindustani film hero who had arrived too late”.

“He only wants to gain publicity and claims that it was he who had defeated the coloniser,” he said.

Further, said Tuan Ibrahim, such revisions has far reaching implications on our 54 years of independence, and would require an entire overhaul of the history syllabus and academia.

Tuan Ibrahim pointed out that even Umno has been fooled into celebrating Merdeka annually over the past half century.

He quipped that if it is true that Malaysia has never been colonised, then the government did not need to celebrate Independence Day on Sept 16 as planned.

In Najib's Merdeka Day message this year the PM had announced that the annual celebration would be held on Malaysia Day instead, owing to the clash with Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

“In the joy of Aidilfitri, I hope we do not forget the struggles of our forefathers in fighting for the country's independence,” the PM had tweeted on Aug 31.

No common sense

Meanwhile some NGOs have also called the professor's claims nonsensical.

“No one with common sense would say that our motherland has never been colonised, when at the time our kings only had limited ceremonial powers over religious and cultural matters, and the British managed all other administrative matters as the real masters,” said president of Teras, Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid.

Azmi in a joint statement today with Shura president Abdul Ghani Samsudin slammed the National Professors' Council and Zainal for claiming that leftist fighters were not freedom fighters, accusing the professors of distorting historical facts.

“How could this interpretation be accepted, when the British had banned many Malay movements such as PKMM, API, Awas and Hizbul Muslimin as communist movements?

“The idea of labelling hardline Malay movements as communists comes from the British and their sympathisers,” said Azmi.

He pointed out that labels such as 'leftist' were British concoctions, and asked why the present professors were so enamoured with British labels.

“Leftists were considered communists, meaning all movements opposed to the British and not aligned with Umno's approach,” he said.

“This would include the ulama who had taken up arms against the British. They were resisting in the name of Islam. Are they also considered not freedom fighters?

“How dare they group the ulama who fought against the British, like Tok Janggut , Abdur Rahman Limbong, Tok Guru Hussin Dol as communists just because the British had labelled them as insurgents?” he said.

He questioned the basis on which such so-called professors made their claims, and called them to show proof.

He asked if Zainal was caught in a colonial mentality for only accepting the British version of history, by claiming all those who had struggled for independence who were not aligned with Umno as illegitimate.

HOW THE KEDAH SULTAN 'SOLD OUT' PENANG TO THE BRITISH

Take the story how the British under Captain Francis Light got possession of Penang from the Sultan of Kedah.

This is what Wikipedia has to say about how the British got hold of Penang from Kedah. Originally part of the Malay sultanate of Kedah, Penang was ceded to the British East India Company in 1786 by the Sultan of Kedah, in exchange for military protection from Siamese and Burmese armies who were threatening Kedah. The story here is that Kedah was a Siamese Protectorate just like how Malacca was a Chinese Protectorate. Kedah at that time was not colonized by Siam. In return for Protection, the Sultan of Kedah was suppose to pay Ufti Bunga Mas (Tribute) to the King of Siam. As Siam was busy fighting the Burmese, Kedah conveniently stop sending the annual Tribute. When the Siamese - Burmese War ended, Kedah was requested to continue sending the Tribute. At that time there was a power struggle in Kedah because the Sultan had not chosen a 'anak gahara' or heir whose mother is of a royal bloodline as the Sultan had many wives and children as he like all the other Malay Rulers were polygamists. This led to the Kedah Royal household to revolt 'Derhaka' against the Sultan by enlisting the mercenary Raja Haji from Selangor to topple the Sultan who eventually fled to Kangar. It was at this time Francis Light, who being a shrewed businessman offered to get back the Throne for the Sultan in exchange for Penang. It was the Sultan's greed that made him give Penang to the British on a silver platter. Not a single shot was fired by the British to get Penang.

The Sultan's successor later renegaded his promise to continuing paying the Tribute to the Siamese King. When the Sultan of Kedah was summoned to Bangkok to report to the Siamese King, he refused to do so. The Kedah Sultan thought that the British would defend Kedah if the Siamese attacked. Unbeknownst to the Sultan, Light had acted without the approval of the East India Company when he promised military protection. When the Company failed to aid Kedah when it was attacked by Thai (and it was known as "Koh Mak" while under Siamese rule until 1785.), the Sultan tried to retake the island in 1790. The attempt was unsuccessful, and the Sultan was forced to cede the island to the Company for an honorarium of 6,000 Spanish dollars per annum. This was later increased to 10,000 dollars, with Province Wellesley (Seberang Prai) being added to Penang in 1800. An annual honorarium of 18,800 ringgit continues to be paid by the Penang State Government to the Sultan of Kedah.

Where on Earth can a defeated aggressor get such a handsome compensation? There was no 'tipu muslihat' (deceit) nor 'campur tangan' (intervention) by the British in the colonization of Malaya even though Malaysian history textbooks claim so. It was the sheer greed, treachery and stupidity of the Malay Rulers that handed Penang and the rest of the Malay Peninsular to the British with the British not having to come with guns blazing like the Spaniards, French, Dutch and Portuguese to control the Malay Peninsular. And today, history repeats itself as the BN/Umno Regime is doing the same by giving citizenship's and voting rights to foreigners.

On 11 August 1786, Captain Francis Light, known as the founder of Penang, hoisted the Union Jack thereby taking formal possession of Penang and renamed it Prince of Wales Island (name used until after 1867) in honour of the heir to the British throne. Penang was the first British possession in the Malay States and Southeast Asia.

The location of the island at the opening of the Straits of Malacca attracted the British East India Company to use the island as a natural harbour and anchorage for their trading ships, and as a naval base to counter growing French ambitions in the region. The settlement on the north-eastern tip of the island was named George Town after King George III of the United Kingdom.

BN/Umno foul mouthpiece TV3 just spinned in its 8pm Malay News bulletin that PAS has admitted that Umno had fought for the Malaysia's independence from Britain. What PAS was referring to were individuals like Onn Jaafar and Tunku Abdul Rahman who happen to be Umno leaders. Umno was set up against the spirit of Jus Soli which was what Malayan Union was all about. Malayan Union would have given non Malays equal rights with Malays and would have truly given meaning to what PM Najib Razak is calling today 1 Malaysia.

Actually if you think of it Umno did play a part in gaining independence for Malaysia just like the role played by the Communist Party of Malaya and countless others. However, nowhere does history mention about Umno Baru's role in the independence struggle. The old Umno was de-registered in February 1988. Umno does not exist - it was de-registered long ago. The 'Umno' you see and hear today is really 'Umno Baru', registered to replace the old 'Umno' - an entirely different entity.

The members of Umno Baru are doing things in the guise and under the name of the non-existing Umno. Is the ROS going to de-register Umno Baru for its illegal activities? UMNO BARU WHICH FORMS PART OF THE RULING BARISAN NASIONAL REGIME IS AN ILLEGAL ORGANIZATION!

Everyone in this country is fixated on when the next general election will be. It is probably the most hotly awaited news. Everyone is sure who will win. Be Enders, or so the supporters of BN are called, cannot wait to know the results. Neither can the Pakatanis, or the supporters of the Pakatan Rakyat led by Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim.

If Anwar does trounce Prime Minister Najib Razak's BN as he is widely expected to, the casualties at the coalition that has ruled for 5 decades would be high. There is even talk of mass capital flight and how hundreds of shredding machines have been ordered and put on standby to shred all incriminating documents. Yes, there will be ensuing chaos in the aftermath of GE-13, but that is politics. And politics can be rather dirty.

Now, Pakatanis are adamant come GE-13, it will be De End for the Be End for a full range of reasons. Hopefully, they won't be lulled into a false sense of complacency by a recent poll that showed a sharp 6 percentage point plunge in Najib's popularity. The battle is far from over, in fact it hasn't even begun. So before the DAP, PAS and PKR start to count their chickens before the eggs even hatch (yes, many of the MPs and ADUNs are already congratulating themselves - gross!), they really should spend more time tightening their strategy and machinery which is still far, far from satisfactory.

But for us, normal Malaysians who are not contesting, let us envisage a future without the BN. How would life be like with the Pakatan?

Celebrations on the streets

Surely, there will be mass celebration in the urban cities and towns all over the country. People will surely come out into the streets with genuine smiles and happiness to join in the festivities and cheer over the demise of a stifling regime, which has no one to blame but itself for its overgrown arrogance.

Long-awaited reforms will be implemented as soon as Parliament convenes. Those that can be implemented immediately will be announced in the media. The new Pakatan government will launch a campaign to explain and re-educate the people of their basic rights.

Malaysians will be called on to unite and treat each other as equal citizens and not as strangers from another race. Awkward at first, but Malaysians will shyly accept the fact and join hands to declare that we are all Malaysians irrespective of the colour of our skin.

Gradually, our identification, birth certificates and passports will cease to carry the declaration for race. The religion tag too may be dispensed with in the future, as Malaysians starts to value their sense of new found freedom. The Race Relations Act will be passed to ensure that racism will be an offence under the law.

Racism won't disappear overnight but it will never be officially sanctioned or practised as it is now. Under such a refreshing environment, sooner or later, everyone will pick up the courage to break the ice and embrace each other’s identities. There should be unabashed blossoming of multiracial friendships, which should be encouraged rather than discouraged.

Meritocracy and competition would be gradually restored as Malaysians compete for a better tomorrow with the government formulating strategies to assist the weaker ones. Malaysians will come out of their shells and dare to be different, now that there is no more ‘big brother’ hanging over their shoulders to say "this cannot or that cannot".

Getting rid of all the tools of oppression

A Royal Commission will finally be formed to check and transform the Royal Malaysia Police into a world class, 21st century organisation that is efficient, clean and trustworthy, dedicated to serving the people and the nation with integrity and respect for human rights, while at the same time maintaining total independence.

Another Royal Commission will be formed to ensure that the Malaysian Armed Forces are made totally apolitical and independent in their discharge of duties. They will also be reminded that their duty is to the King and Country and to defend the nation and not to pander to the political big-wigs. No, no, that is certainly not the job-scope of the Malaysian Armed Forces.

The Judiciary will be revamped to reflect total independence and as a check and balance to the Executive and Legislature branches of the Malaysian governmental system.

Meanwhile, the civil service would also see beneficial changes where salaries can rise more commensurately with the market when the unwarranted fats are trimmed. The Pakatan government will implement wide-scale job retraining to ensure enough skilled workers are available for the jobs market. The Cabinet too will see a downsizing with the disposal of unimportant Ministries and Ministerial posts.

The archaic and obsolete Internal Security Act, Official Secrets Act, the Printing Presses and Publications Act, the Sedition Act and the Emergency Ordinance will be abolished.

People will be encouraged to speak up without fear, while the mainstream media currently controlled by the BN would be given total press freedom to publish the unvarnished truth while upholding the journalist etiquette on false and misleading news.

We are all sons and daughters of the Earth

The bumiputra status will not be abolished as feared but the government will see to it that these will be gradually extended to everyone else.

The government will also carry out projects to accord Internet access to the rural inhabitants, in an effort to create a pool of knowledgeable citizens.

In all probability, English will once again be the medium of instruction for Science and Mathematics. Vernacular schools may be barred in favour of National Schools where Malay and English are the teaching medium, and a choice of either Chinese or Tamil as a compulsory third language. Most educationists believe that nationalism starts from young, and separating children at a tender age only leads to unnecessary division.

Governance using the Competency, Accountability and Transparency (CAT) system will be implemented at the Federal level, as well as in all States governed by the Pakatan. This would spell the end of corruption. Cronyism too will disappear as compulsory tendering exercises eliminate the roots of corrupt practises.

Anwar and team will also implement wide-scale job retraining to ensure enough skilled workers for the jobs market. It would also review existing policies and cut down on the unnecessary foreign labour that drains our economic progress and can pose a risk to our safety and security. Factories and plantations will be encouraged to turn to full-automation to address the growing dependence on foreign labour.

The economy will remain as the new government’s biggest headache. To maintain and prop up the economy, the government will have to review the 2011 budget with hefty spending cuts and abolish capital-intensive projects and divert badly-needed funds to critical sectors.

Salaries will increase as a minimum pay scale comes into force, which will benefit a large sector of Malaysians and boost the national economy with bigger spending power. To attract foreign investments the government will increase free trade practises that will benefit the nation in the long run.

At last, the healing process can begin

The healing of the country will begin, as Malaysians look forward to a brighter and more exciting future. Life as we know it will change for the better and will evolve further into a totally different society from what we are now - a comatose and even dying society over-oppressed by 50 years of BN authoritarian rule.

Malaysians must be ready for change and learn to do things differently. To excel, we would need to work harder and catch up, as there would be no more corrupt opportunities for instant riches.

But should BN win, the political, economic and social climate will remain unchanged. Yes, Najib and UMNO will promise the sky and reforms aglore. But we know they won't keep their promises as they have never done so before. Barely a month down the road, Ibrahim Ali and gang will show up and threaten the minority races and split the Malays all over again.

Life would be the same as it has been the past 50 years and everything will be just as it is. Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin goes on to become the next Prime Minister for the next five years. The peace will be disrupted by Perkasa-wannabes each time the UMNO politicos need to distract the nation from another of their hare-brained multi-billion ringgit schemes, for example the two upcoming French-assisted nuclear power plants.

What a difference a general election can make. Really, Malaysians must value their vote and choose wisely.

Media lynching and academic collaborators

Every once in a while the government-controlled or government-associated media engages in a public lynching of individuals that dare to challenge the Umno-scripted truth about the political system, religion, the monarchy or just about any subject which may be seen as threatening to Umno’s political and ideological dominance.

The latest case involves Mohamad Sabu and the reason for his lynching relates to a speech he made in Tasek Gelugor on Aug 21 in which the PAS deputy president touched on the Bukit Kepong incident of Feb 23, 1950.

In that incident, armed members of the Malayan Communist Party attacked and killed 25 police personnel and some of their family members. In his speech reported by Utusan Malaysia, Mat Sabu allegedly glorified the MCP by claiming that they were the real heroes for fighting against the British and for leading the country’s struggle for independence.

Following the Utusan report, the New Straits Times had four articles including an entire page by its group managing editor Zainul Arifin attacking Mohamad Sabu for allegedly “rewriting history for political gain” (NST, Aug 28).

This has since been followed by Utusan’s Sunday edition Mingguan Malaysia devoting extraordinary coverage (spreading over six pages) to the excoriation of Mat Sabu.

Mat Sabu even featured in the Prime Minister’s Aidilfitri-cum-Merdeka anniversary speech where Najib Abdul Razak sanctimoniously lambasted anyone that dared to discredit the sacrifices of the country’s forefathers and security forces in the path to independence.

Missing from the historical narrative

At the end of his article, the NST’s chief Zainul – who surely must be aware that most people in our country know fully that not only history but also media editorials and pieces such as his have been written for political gain – makes the plea for history “to be debated by historians, and not politicians”.

Whilst he makes the valid point that “a relooking at history is important …. [and that] some say it is biased and a tool of political dominance”, Zainul will know too that those looking for a debate or relook will not find it in the pages of his newspaper.

So what is the verdict of professional historians on the communist insurgency and its contribution to the movement for independence from which a real debate and the historical truth can have its starting point?

Especially useful is the latest scholarly assessment of the MCP’s role and place in Malayan history which is found in the journal ‘Kajian Malaysia’ (Journal of Malaysian Studies), Vol. 27, No. 1 & 2, 2009. It is available online at http://web.usm.my/km/vol27(1&2)2009.html

In the volume, Richard Mason has an article ‘Revisiting 1948 Insurgencies and the Cold War in Southeast Asia’ that provides an overview on the almost simultaneous revolt against colonial regimes in Malaya, Indonesia and Indochina. Also three writers, C.C. Chin, Leon Comber and Abdul Rahman Hj. Ismail, provide new insights into the MCP and the tumultuous events and nationalist stirrings of the period.

What is noticeable about the NST media coverage is not only the way the paper has ignored the real scholars that have undertaken the studies of the MCP but also its reliance on the preferred modus operandi to trot out what appear to be court academicians in the guise of Malaysian academic firepower to provide intellectual justification for their public lynching exercise.

One such academician, Prof. Emeritus Khoo Kay Kim (pic above) – who is prominently featured in the NST and other government controlled media – should know better.

Mat Sabu’s intellectual honesty

Prof. Khoo’s field of specialization is not the Malayan Communist Party or Chin Peng or recent Malayan political history.

Although his PhD was on the topic ‘The Beginnings of Political Extremism in Malaya 1915-1935’, it does not cover the period of the 1940s and 1950s when the struggle for independence took place in earnest and during which time the MCP underwent various metamorphosis and change in ideological direction in its objective to free Malaya from the colonial yoke of the British.

Prof. Khoo could have waited for clarification or explanation from Mat Sabu, and for any justification the latter may have provided for his views. That would have been the correct academic etiquette.

Or if Prof. Khoo was in haste, he could at least have relied on scholars that have done more authoritative work on the MCP and through their studies provided an academic and more truthful historical context and explanation for the Bukit Kepong incident and the communist fighters.

Instead he was reported to have stated that “Mohamad should not lie to the people when the rakyat today was easily led astray and misinformed” (NST, p.10). Not only has he dismissed Mat Sabu’s account without checking with the victim of the public lynching but he has diverted the issue away from Mat Sabu’s focus on who were Malaya’s freedom fighters to the international origins and orientation of the Malayan Communist Party in the 1920s and 30s!

Prof. Khoo is no academic innocent or virgin when it comes to press coverage. He must know that the NST has its knives out for Mat Sabu and other opposition or civil society leaders that stand in the way of UMNO’s agenda. He must know or at least he should know that there would be no fair trial and that the pursuit of academic facts and intellectual truth is the furthest away from being a concern or priority of the NST.

Mat Sabu is feared by Umno and its mouthpieces, the NST and Utusan for good reason. He is PAS’s thinking, progressive and committed face – not simply a face but someone who possesses not only the intellectual honesty to raise uncomfortable questions about how our history is being written but also is prepared to take a contrary position to defend his take on historical truth.

In doing so, Mat Sabu puts to shame the academic hangers-on that are quick to bray when called upon by the government.

Scorpenes-Altantuya: No-holds barred revelations in London later this month

French lawyers investigating if naval arms giant DCN had paid hundreds of millions in kickbacks and commissions to top Malaysian officials including Prime Minister Najib Razak will be giving the latest update on the case in London towards the end of September.

It is not clear if William Bourdon, who was deported from Malaysia in late July, will be part of the group attending the fundraiser organised by Malaysian NGO Suaram or Voice of Malaysia, but according to director Cynthia Gabriel, another well-known French lawyer Joseph Breham will be in London.

Breham is expected to take on where Bourdon was forced to stop due to his deporation. Breham may reveal further damaging details uncovered during investigations into the case. Malaysians who have been following the complex trail expect the Suaram lawyers to confirm that Najib was the mystery 'third party' who flew to Macau and Hong Kong with close friend Razak Baginda and the murdered Altantuya Shaariibuu.

Such a revelation would literally bring the political sky crashing down on an embattled Najib, whose approval rating plunged 6 percentage points to 59 percent from three months ago.

"The ratings plunge is serious and significant enough for UMNO and BN to take note of and take swift action. As government leaders, they should investigate what caused this plunge, why are the people unhappy. This is not something that they should do only for the sake of their own political well-being, but also as responsible leaders tasked by voters to manage the country," Ramon Navaratnam, past president of Transparency International Malaysia, told Malaysia Chronicle.

Political sky may come crashing down on Najib

Indeed, Najib's rivals in the UMNO ruling party are chafing at the bit to take him down. Any confirmation that he had known Altantuya would give them the perfect excuse to threaten a no-confidence vote against him as he had previously taken a solemn oath on the Quran that he never knew her.

The 28-year-old beauty was alleged to have been both Baginda and Najib's mistress. She was killed in Malaysia in 2006, and two of Najib's former bodyguards have been senteneced to hang for her death, although neither men had any motive to do so. Their trial has been described by US officials in diplomatic notes leaked on WikiLeaks as being clearly lopsided. Malaysians themselves believe the bodyguards were ordered to kill her to stop her from blowing the whistle on the commissions paid by DCN.

Both Bourdon and Breham are renowned French human rights lawyers, appointed by Suaram to probe if Malaysian taxpayers had been unfairly and excessively charged by DCN. In the course of their probe, they had to check on Baginda's dealings with DCN and it is believed they may have traced air-tickets or some form of documentation showing the travel undertaken by Altantuya, Baginda and the mystery third man to close the deal with DCN.

Things have become too murky in Malaysia

Bourdon, who was unceremoniously deported from Kuala Lumpur in late July, had been slated to talk on the matter at the second-leg of the Malaysian fundraiser. His deportation raised eyebrows, with the news travelling far and wide.

“This is a government – even though they have spent millions on Public Relations firms and management consultants – that keeps shooting itself in the foot. The deportation of the French lawyer is only the latest example. Now, for the first time, all the juicy details of that scandal – including the model who was murdered by the PM’s bodyguards – have appeared in the Washington Post. It just adds to the confusion among people here – what kind of a country is Malaysia, anyhow? And is Najib really the person that he has portrayed himself to be?” John Malott, a former US ambassador, had told Malaysia Chronicle.

The Malaysian defense ministry had purchased two Scorpene and one Agosta submarines in 2002. Najib, then the defense minister, had pushed for the deal which had met public opposition due to its high costs and the unsuitability of the ships. Till now, it is suspected that the Malaysian government is still holding back the full cost of the deal, in particular the long-term maintenance charges.

The most disputed 'cost' comes from a RM570 million support services side-deal signed with Perimekar, a firm with links to Baginda, who also acted as a negotiator in the Malaysian purchase.

Rosmah's presence and Suaram's appeal for funds

Newly-released US cables or diplomatic notes have also thrown doubt on long-standing allegations that Najib's wife, Rosmah Mansor, had been present at the scene of the murder with two of her aides-de-camp. However, the cables do not clear her from any involvement but say the Malaysian public "does not have confidence in the integrity of the Altantuya murder investigation.”

It is illegal in France to pay commissions to secure a contract and this is why Suaram has initiated their lawsuit against DCN in Paris, after failing to get the Malaysian authorities and anti-corruption agency to launch a probe.

So far, Suaram has organised three fundraisers to pay the legal fees and the London dinner will be the fourth. However, according to Cynthia, the NGO is still far behind its target and requires more funds to push the French lawsuit with greater speed.

Why is it that in school history textbooks it is always Malays and Muslims who seem to be fighting for freedom. Even in Sabah and Sarawak it appears that only Malays and Muslims who sacrificed for freedom. Didn't the Dayaks, Muruts, Kelabit, Dusun, Kadazans, Chinese and the Christians in Sabah and Sarawak also fought and sacrificed for freedom? There's only little mention of their contributions.

Salaam Eid al-Fitr السلام عيد الفطر

The Muslim community is getting ready to celebrate the end of the month-long fast of Ramadan with communal prayers and various festivities. Ramadan is the month on the Islamic lunar calendar during which Muslims abstain from food, drink and other sensual pleasures from break of dawn to sunset. The end of Ramadhan marks the beginning of the three-day Eid ul-Fitr or "feast of fast breaking" holiday, in which Muslims exchange social visits and seek to strengthen bonds of brotherhood in the community. They celebrate with prayers of thanksgiving, good food, new clothes, gift giving, and all the other festivities associated with a happy occasion. Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated not because the month of Ramadhan is over, but out of gratitude to God for having obeyed the commandments in the holy month.

Eid day is an exciting time for Muslims. Before the Eid prayer Muslims give out some money for the poor. This is a reminder that the fasting has made them more understanding of the needs of others. Then they go to mosques for the Eid prayer. After that most people visit family and friends where they will exchange gifts, share sweetmeats, and enjoy time together. Most Muslim communities will hold an Eid dinner later in the evening for the people to get together. The celebrations continue for a couple more days, sometimes even till the next weekend.

During this holiday, Muslims greet each other by saying "Eid mubarak" meaning "blessed Eid," and "taqabbala allahu a'maalakum" or "may God accept your deeds". It is a time to reflect on the month that has passed, to be happy at having achieved a month of fasting and worship, and to hope that the deeds have earned the pleasure of the Lord.

TV1 last night reported in its 8pm prime-time news on the existence of "Murtads in Malaysia & Singapore" Facebook group. What is most despicable and sickening is TV1 highlighting the alleged association of DAP leaders such as Tan Kok Wai, Charles Santiago, Dr Boo Cheng Hau, Ean Yong Hian Wah with the Group. TV1 even placed the spotlight on the chairman of Parti Socialis Malaysia (PSM) and ADUN for Kota Damansara Dr Nasir Hashim insinuating the betrayal of his own faith.

The “news” report is obviously calculated to inflame sentiments and anger among Malays and Muslims in the country, especially towards Pakatan Rakyat whose leaders’ names were “found” to be part of the group.

The problem is those responsible in TV1 obviously did not bother to find the truth to the story but went ahead to make the baseless insinuations above. TV1 either were too ignorant to know, or did not want to know the fact that the “add to group” function in Facebook is such that you cannot prevent a group administrator from adding you to any group. There is no requirement to secure one’s permission or approval for adding a Facebook member to a Group.

Therefore all of the accused “supporters” of the Facebook page did not intend to, or never knew they had “joined” the Group. TV1 was completely unethical in its reporting by not first verifying the above information with the relevant people who were “implicated” by the Facebook page, especially since they were Pakatan Rakyat leaders who were easily accessible.

Hence instead of making a news report to cite the existence of the “Murtads in Malaysia & Singapore” Facebook page and criticising the administrators for wantonly adding Pakatan Rakyat leaders to the page and to cause anger among the people, TV1 chose to emphasize the supposed support shown by these leaders to the page. TV1 must be charged for making and disseminating false news to incite hatred among ordinary Malaysians.

The false TV1 news report follows closely another fake news aired by TV3 on 21 August which claimed the proselytization by a tuition centre in Old Klang Road after complaints by a non-existent “Surau Al-Musyrikin”.

It is absolutely clear that the above incendiary and seditious false news reports by the Government-owned and UMNO-associated media organisations are part of a systematic and orchestrated campaign to divide the people and retain power for Barisan Nasional in the next general elections. The desperation of the Najib administration is so deep that “to win at all cost”, BN is willing to not only spread false news, but also to use the highly-charged religious sentiments to tear the country apart.

We condemn the actions of the TV stations in the strongest possible terms and demand that the Minister of Information, Communications and Culture Dr Rais Yatim apologise on behalf of the TV stations for making false and seditious news reports. Dr Rais must also conduct an immediate investigation into the completely lack of professionalism in both TV1 and TV3 and insist that the responsible parties are removed from the posts.

It is better to keep the wolf out of the fold, than to trust to drawing his teeth and talons after he shall have entered."

Khir Toyo Blackmailing Umno for Own Political Survival

Former Selangor menteri besar Dr Mohd Khir Toyo has denied threatening Umno by way of implicating three cabinet ministers in an alleged conspiracy against him.

Khir explained that his recent remarks in his blog were only aimed at reminding the three unnamed individuals to get off his case and focus on helping Umno win in the next general election.

"I just want to remind those who are involved to leave the (judicial) system alone. I want to remind them to go back to our original struggles," he told Malaysiakini when contacted.

Khir was asked about his blog posting, in which he alleged that three federal-level ministers were conspiring for him to be jailed over corruption charges.

Khir also brushed off claims that his allegations about the purported plot to send him to jail would weaken Umno, which is currently facing a daunting task of recapturing Selangor from Pakatan Rakyat.

That would depend on the three unnamed individuals, said Khir.

The 'plotters' should put in more efforts to strengthen Umno and in winning the next general election, rather than train their sights on him, he added.

Khir also laughed off when asked whether the individuals included Minister for Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Noh Omar.

"I don't want to name anybody," he said. "The persons would know who they are."

The three persons should also leave the judicial system alone, said Khir, who said he finds it strange that he was notified by the Shah Alam High Court about the prima facie case against him a week before the court actually decided.

"It is hard for me to say, but it's weird for me," he added.

Asked whether the court notice shows political interference had taken place, Khir said he did not wish to make such a conclusion.

"Let the public decide," he quipped.

"I still believe in the judicial system. That is why I have never made a statement (about it). The court should be free from any influence," he said.

Pope Benedict’s choice to publicly baptize the most prominent Muslim in Italy, Egyptian-born Magdi Allam, highlights a quiet worldwide exodus from Islam. In recent years, millions have moved on. With this high-profile action, Pope Benedict demonstratively blesses this massive conversion from the highest levels of the Church.

Interviewed by al-Jazeera in 2006, Ahmad al-Qataani, leader of the Companions Lighthouse for the Science of Islamic Law in Libya, explains the decline:

Islam used to represent … Africa’s main religion and there were 30 African languages that used to be written in Arabic script. The number of Muslims in Africa has diminished to 316 million, half of whom are Arabs in North Africa. So in the section of Africa that we are talking about, the non-Arab section, the number of Muslims does not exceed 150 million people. When we realize that the entire population of Africa is one billion people, we see that the number of Muslims has diminished greatly from what it was in the beginning of the last century.

On the other hand, the number of Catholics has increased from one million in 1902 to 329 million 882 thousand (329,882,000). Let us round off that number to 330 million in the year 2000.

As to how that happened, well there are now 1.5 million churches whose congregations account for 46 million people. In every hour, 667 Muslims convert to Christianity. Everyday, 16,000 Muslims convert to Christianity. Every year, 6 million Muslims convert to Christianity. These numbers are very large indeed.

Allam’s public baptism came just ten days after the body of Catholic Archbishop Paulos Faraj Rahho of Mosul, Iraq, was found in a shallow grave after being kidnapped by al-Qaeda February 29. The ceremony came just three days after an al-Qaeda tape threatening the pope and condemning cartoons of Mohammed. Muslims who convert to other religions or abandon religion entirely are subject to a standing order of death for apostasy. The baptism of Allam is an act of defiance in the face of Islamic threats.

The baptism of Allam also comes in the midst of papal “dialogue” with Muslims. The dialogue began unpromisingly with the catcalls from Islam and its secularist allies which greeted the now-famous September 20, 2006, papal address at the University of Regensburg. In October, 138 Islamic leaders presented the pope with “A Common Word Between Us and You” — nailed by critics as a craftily written call for conversion. On March 4, Pope Benedict approved formation of a permanent “Catholic-Muslim forum” scheduled to meet in November. And now he has thrown his own call for conversion into the discussion. Islam’s secularist allies were quick to echo Muslims, calling the baptism “provocative.” While accepting the Islamic death penalty for apostasy as a given, they complain the pope’s action could set back dialogue.

While the secularists wring their hands, Allam writes that his mind “has been freed from the obscurantism of an ideology that legitimizes lies and deception, violent death that leads to homicide and suicide, blind submission to tyranny, permitting me to join the authentic religion of Truth, Life, and Liberty. … I realize what I am going up against but I will confront my fate with my head high, with my back straight, and the interior strength of one who is certain about his faith.”

Allam, author of numerous books and deputy editor of Milan’s Corriere della Sera, joins a list of converts from Islam which includes many other public intellectuals and millions of average people from all over the world. This is more than the normal flow between two large religious communities. Islam can point to little in the way of recent conversions. Its claim to be the world’s fastest-growing religion stems mostly from the high birth rate in Islamic countries, whose infant mortality rates have been cut by the introduction of Western medicine. Christian growth is based on adult conversion. As leading Christian evangelist Wolfgang Simpson writes, “More Muslims have come to Christ in the last two decades than in all of history.”

Although al-Qataani points to Africa, there is another phenomenon based on repulsion from Islamist dictatorship, corruption, and terrorist violence. In Iran as many as 1 million people have surreptitiously converted to Evangelical Christianity in the last five years. Pastor Hormoz Shariat claims to have converted 50,000 of them through his U.S.-based Farsi-language satellite ministry. He contrasts the upswing to the efforts of evangelical missionaries in Iran between 1830 and 1979, whose 149 years of work built a Christian community of only 3,000. One Iranian religious scholar believes youth are abandoning Islam because it is identified with the corrupt Iranian government. Now the Iranian Majlis (parliament) is debating the death penalty for conversion.

After years of al-Qaeda war on Iraq, a similar phenomenon is growing. The New York Times March 4 reports: “After almost five years of war, many young people in Iraq, exhausted by constant firsthand exposure to the violence of religious extremism, say they have grown disillusioned with religious leaders and skeptical of the faith that they preach.” A high school girl tells Times reporters: “I hate Islam and all the clerics because they limit our freedom every day and their instruction became heavy over us. Most of the girls in my high school hate that Islamic people control the authority because they don’t deserve to be rulers.” A 19-year-old man says: “The religion men are liars. Young people don’t believe them. Guys my age are not interested in religion anymore.” A Baghdad law professor explains that her students “have changed their views about religion. They started to hate religious men. They make jokes about them because they feel disgusted by them.” A 24-year-old female college student says, “I used to love Osama bin Laden. Now I hate Islam. Al-Qaeda and the Mahdi Army are spreading hatred. People are being killed for nothing.”

In southern Russia the same pattern is emerging. According to Roman Silantyev, executive secretary of the Inter-religious Council in Russia, freed from atheist control, two million Muslims converted to Christianity. Repulsed by bloody terrorist attacks, those living in areas such as Beslan have converted to Christianity in the greatest numbers of all. As many as 100,000 have converted to Christianity in post-Soviet Kyrgyzstan.

After decades of Islamist war, evangelicals report thousands of sub-rosa converts in rural areas of Kashmir. Says one churchgoer: “I am interested in this religion. I hate violence. I hate fundamentalists in Islam. I come here to seek peace.” An Indian newspaper headline reads: “Urban Muslim Youth Out to Junk Faith.”

Following decades of terrorist rule, Palestinians are being quietly converted, holding in-home services to avoid detection. Says one evangelist: “I’ve been working among these people for thirty years, and I promise you I’ve never seen anything like this.”

Islam is also losing adherents in areas where Islamist harassment is heavy on the streets. The London Times estimates 15% of Muslims living in Western Europe have left Islam — 200,000 in the UK alone. Those who leave often face harassment, threats, and attack.

The mufti of Perak, Malaysia, estimates about 250,000 people have abandoned Islam, making formal application for apostasy to the state — a right allowed to Malaysian citizens who are not ethnic Malays. Says he: “This figure does not include individuals who don’t do solat, doesn’t fast and breaks [sic] all the tenets of Islam.” Borrowing from the communist playbook, Malaysia operates “reeducation camps” for any ethnic Malay found guilty of apostasy. Unsurprisingly, ethnic Malays are at the bottom of the economic ladder in Malaysia.

In a letter published in Corriere della Sera on Easter Day, Allam points out the pope “sent an explicit and revolutionary message to a church that until now has been too cautious in the conversion of Muslims … because of the fear of being unable to protect the converted who are condemned to death for apostasy.

“Thousands of people in Italy have converted to Islam and practice their faith serenely. But there are also thousands of Muslims who have converted to Christianity who are forced to hide their new faith out of fear of being killed by Islamist terrorists.”

Allam describes Islam as a system for taking and holding power. Threat of violence is its enforcement mechanism. Allam also points out: “Beyond … the phenomenon of extremists and Islamist terrorism at the global level, the root of evil is inherent to a physiologically violent and historically conflictual Islam.” So it is not coincidental that Muslims are abandoning the faith as U.S. and coalition soldiers smash al-Qaeda in Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere. Islamist terrorists and street thugs are beginning to look impotent.

Appeasement-oriented opinion explains Islamic violence as a response to Western policy. For them, reality is incomprehensible. But in a 1998 ABC News interview with John Miller, Osama bin Laden explained his motivation: Allah had given the jihadis victory over one superpower (the USSR) and Allah would grant them victory over the other. But a decade later it is not coming to pass on the battlefield. The defeat of the Islamists puts the lie to the claim that Allah will cause the infidels to desire submission. As a result, the Islamists’ ability to intimidate their captive populations is weakened. More and more it is Muslims who no longer desire submission to Islam.

Konflik Alkitab Bahasa Malaysia yang ditahan dan dicop oleh Kementerian Dalam Negeri (KDN) telah mencetuskan kontroversi. Sebagai umat Katolik, saya kesal kerana Alkitab kita diperlakukan sesuka hati oleh pihak-pihak yang tidak bertanggungjawab. Alasan Alkitab boleh melemahkan iman penganut Islam sebenarnya merendahkan iman penganut Islam itu sendiri.

Benarkah penganut Islam begitu mudah terkeliru dan iman mereka begitu rapuh sehingga “takut” dengan Alkitab? Saya sangat tertarik dengan kenyataan Bishop Munib A.Younan dari Lutheran World Federation (LFDF) yang disiarkan di HERALD Mac 20 lalu.

Younan memberitahu bahawa kata “Allah” yang menjadi kontroversi di Malaysia adalah mengejutkan kerana umat Kristian di negara Arab menggunakan kata itu sejak 2,000 tahun lalu. Katanya, melarang menggunakan kata “Allah” di kalangan bukan Islam adalah tidak masuk akal oleh negara-negara Arab dan seluruh dunia. Ini adalah kerana umat Kristian Arab menggunakan kata itu sejak 2,000 tahun lalu dan tidak ada sesiapa atau tidak ada undang-undang yang melarang mereka.

“Kami, umat Kristian Arab menggunakan kata “Allah”, di negara pusat Islam dan di negara Arab, tetapi mengapa umat Kristian Malaysia pula tidak dibenarkan menggunakan kata ini?” inilah persoalan Younan dan saya pasti sebelum Younan, sudah ramai umat yang mempersoalkan hal ini.

Younan turut memberitahu bahawa di Yordan, rajanya memberikan 5,000 ekar tanah percuma kepada pihak gereja untuk mendirikan rumah ibadat. Alangkah baiknya jika negara ini mengikut contoh negara Islam lain.

Perkasa: The saviour of the Malays

SATIRE Perkasa is right. Malays need help. We still got problems cannot solve. Until solved not wise to implement meritoclacy. Malays in this country is 60%, chinese only 25% and Indians 7%. The rest are bumiputras from east Malaysia and new citizens from Indonesia, Bangladesh, Cambodia etc.

We implore non Malays please understand. It’s true, we still weak, need more crutches until one day we can stand on two feet. Before government develop towns and cities. Non malays mostly stay cities and benefit from government. Also before, government help chinese businessmen, as cannot trust Malay entrepreunership, so today chinese in Malaysia many millioniares, even top five richest in Malaysia is Chinese!!

Also, Indians today many doctors, lawyers, enginerrs, scientists, and Ananda is also top billionaire. So Indians are better off than Malays. That’s why Malays have Perkasa to champion Malay rights. No believe? Go to see Kampung outside KL, many many poor Malays, hardly can eat, some only 1 meal per day. But all is not lost. Today we also have many towering Malays, like Tajuddin Ramli, wonder boy billionaire- a pride of the Malays. Daim Zainuddin also another towering alay. Khir Toyo too from dentist to Chief Minister are good example of Malaysia Bolih.

Many Malays try emulate this towering Malays because they so famous. That’s why NEP so good for Malaysia. Everyone gains and no one lose. Today NEM is also good government new policy.

Understanding the Malay problem

Syed Hassan, another champion of Malays also very intelligent man, and make good assistant to Ibrahim Ali. He understand Malay problem, just like Najib, our beloved Prime Minister. Najib is so intellighent, that’s why he is Prima Minister.

Chinese and Indian, must understand and please no try to question status quo. If all Malay strong like Chinese or Indian, no more problem and no more ‘mediocrity’ as what Najib say. then we can implement ‘meritoclacy’, so everyone gain.

Malaysia government always help everyone, but Malays still left behind after trying so hard to improve they economic standard. Maybe, Malays too many children, and less salary or opportunity like Chinese or indian. Once again, please try to understand, for we mean no misunderstanding with chinese or indian. Today, many malays in civil servis, becoz difficult for Malays to find jobs in cities.

Non-Malays keeping secrets

Many chinese and indian business, try to conceal business secrets so Malays cannot get promotion, after working many years for low salary. For me too, also rejectby Utusan and Bernama, becoz my Malay no better than English. At least government help Malays to get jobs in civil servis and army forces. But mebbe salary too low, so chinese and malay no interest in civil servis.

Government, try many times to encourage Non Malays to join civil servis but not succeed.

So it is good Perkasa come out in support of Najib to say cannot implement meritoclacy yet!

“The majority race is still backward. If we give the minority an advantage, even if it is through meritocracy if we do not think of the majority that needs protection and handicaps, then it will be problematic for the country. It’ll be unstable because Malaysia is different from other countries. Malaysia is different from Thailand. Malaysia is different from the Philippines. Malaysia is different from Iran. With countries that have one race, because our country has many races . The majority is still backward,” Perkasa secretary-general Syed Hassan Syed Ali said.

It is also very hurtful of the new media to imply that Syed Hassan wanted the government to deny the non-Malays any advantage and to ensure that they were held back so as not to progress ahead of the Malays.

It is also good to know that our beloved Najib said the government’s “new system” was to use meritoclacy among Bumiputeras only and creating a more competitive environment within the community to enhance the Malay economy.

Eye on GE-13

Najib’s words also come at good time, so near to general election that malays continue to be protected, so that all Malaysians have equal opportunity to progress. Also note that the Malays are no weak and lazy, as what Mahathir has proclaimed in the past, but we still slow and need to catching up. Strong malays like Syed Hassan is there to protect us. The fact that the Malays have to turn to Khristian organisations for help in the past show that we must face the fact, we still weak and need help.

Lately, we hear Home Ministry Hishamuddin say that 2.04 million ekonomik migrants has registered with biosystem. Government help them to work legally at expense of Malaysians. So Malays must work harder to get better pay than foreign worker. Government must make more jobs in rural areas for malays to get good jobs. If not foreign worker will take all our jobs. Many malay migrate from village to city to look for job, but hard to find and not good salary, becoz foreign worker can work low pay, so how to get good job, if not have good skill?

Since MCA is so concerned about Father Julien's contribution towards Heng Ee School, then tell me why immediately after Father Julien's death, the new administration of Heng Ee Secondary School saw it fit to replace Good Friday as a school holiday with Qing Ming instead. The School has also converted the school Chapel into a classroom while the statue of the Virgin Mary has been blocked from view with a partition. I wonder what the Catholic Church in Penang has to say about this. More importantly, what the Lying Ugly Bitch Tan Cheng Liang has to say about this.

Isn't all this an affront to the memory and sacrifices of Father Julien who had done so much for Heng Ee and Chinese education in Penang? MCA, if you really care for Father Julien and want to make noise why not get the Heng Ee Secondary School authorities to revert what they have done. If not, just fuck the hell up!

UMNO personality Ummi Hafilda Ali stunned the court on Tuesday, taking an 'oath of calamity' that she never had sex with businessman Nor Azman Abdullah @ Baginda Minda before proceeding to file for judgemtn against him in her RM100mil defamation suit.

“I am taking this sumpah (laknat) in the holy month of Ramadan that I did not have sex with Baginda Minda. If I lie, then calamity will fall upon me,” she told the court.

He oath created a stir although lawyers say it was not necessary to go about the matter in such a dramatic fashion.

Accompanied by her legal adviser Mohd Khairul Azam Abdul Aziz, she filed the claim at the Kuala Lumpur High Court. The latest claim follows her April 25 application to refile the defamation suit against Baginda Minda and Mkini Dotcom Sdn Bhd.

Nor Azman had told Mkini's news portal Malaysiakini he had slept with her in London and that she was infatuated with him, even begging him to leave his wife and elope with her.

I am not immoral, scandalous, cheap, liar or untrustworthy

In her statement of claim, Ummi Hafilda alleged that Baginda Minda had uttered slanderous statements against her during a press conference held at the Parliament lobby on March 15.

According to Ummi, the statements carried by the news portal the same day, portrayed her as an "immoral, scandalous and cheap woman, a liar and an untrustworthy person".

She also said the malicious article had painted her as a witness who would lie while testifying in court, a businesswoman who was desperate for opportunities, and a person who was involved in Saiful Bukhari Azlan's current sodomy allegations against Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim.

A call by the UMNO-owned Utusan newspaper to Prime Minister Najib Razak's government to "block" a Malaysian gay pastor’s wedding slated to take place in New York, USA, has raised eyebrows.

Many pundits point to the intensifying rivalry between Najib and Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim, against whom even US officials believe the PM is trying to pin trumped-up sodomy charges.

"Even Utusan cannot be so silly to think it can stop the US wedding. The BN can ban the pastor from returning to Malaysia just as they deported Scorpenes lawyer William Bourdon. But basically, it is another ploy to make sure Anwar remains discredited. If homosexuality is no longer viewed so harshly especially since the death of Ashraf, then public sentiment for Anwar will continue to rise. This is a baiting game that will worsen as the GE comes nearer," PKR vice president Tian Chua told Malaysia Chronicle.

He was referring to Mohd Ashraf Hafiz Abd Aziz, 25, who died from a heart attack just two weeks ago after failing to get a name change from unsympathetic authorities. Ashraf won huge sympathy and sparked soul searching amongst the conservative Muslim community if perhaps they were not too hemmed in by beliefs of the past.

Ou, a 41-year old pastor who is due to wed his 47-year-old Afro-American partner, Phineas Newborn III, who is a Broadway musical producer. The two plan to marry at the end of the month and hold a dinner reception in Malaysia at a later date.

“Malaysian gay pastor Ou Yang Wen Feng’s attempt to break this value system to marry the same gender in this country has to be opposed. In fact the government has to act to block him. Day by day we see various attempts to destroy our value system and Pastor Ou is doing it in the open,” said Utusan in the Awang Selamat column.

Ou Yang, a former columnist with Sin Chew Daily, is currently in Hong Kong promoting his book on homosexuality and Christianity.

Najib and Rosmah and Sodomy II

Same-sex marriages in New York state became legal on July 24 under the Marriage Equality Act. Other states in the US that permit same-sex marriages are Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont, as well as the District of Columbia.

Gays and lesbians’ rights are not recognised in Malaysia. Sodomy is a crime punishable by up to 20 years in jail. Homosexuality is also not recognised in Islam, the country's official religion.

This was the mean reason the UMNO leadership has tried to frame Anwar twice for sodomy. In 1998, as he became more popular than his boss, the then prime minister Mahathir Mohamad, Anwar was sacked and jailed on manifestly fabricated charges which thrown out by the court in 2004. In 2008, just after he announced plans to make a parliamentary comeback, an aide lodged a fresh sodomy complaint against him after meeting Najib and wife Rosmah Mansor.

The Catholic bishop of Melaka-Johor, Mgr Paul Tan Chee, SJ (pic above), slammed Malaysian politicians for stirring interfaith hatred. Ordinary Malaysians neither think nor feel split along any religious frontier. They “know the wisdom of seeing others as fellow humans caught in the beauty and travail of ordinary human striving. Sadly, devious and conniving politicians see things differently.”

In answering some questions posed by Free Malaysia Today, the prelate said that politicians are to blamed for the many controversies that involve Christianity in recent times. “This is all due to the manipulation and duplicity by politicians who are out to win votes at the expense of the gullible and the ignorant,” he said.

The dispute over the term Allah for God in the Bible, the seizure of Malay-language Bibles and the alleged Christian plot to undermine the status of Islam, are among the issues that have strained relations between Christians and the, even if Malaysia and the Holy See have been working towards establishing diplomatic relations after the Malaysian prime minister recently paid a visit to Benedict XVI.

The latest incident involves a church that was raided last week by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) after it received a complaint from Muslims present at a local dinner event.

Despite criticism of the raid, State Executive Councillor for Religious Affairs Hasan Ali claimed that Christians were involved in proselytising among Muslims.

“If the claim is substantiated, I will exert myself to initiate corrective and contrite action by Christians,” Mgr Paul Tan Chee said. “Otherwise I want recantation and an apology. It’s as simple and clear cut as that,” he added.

Commenting on JAIS director Marzuki Hassan’s statement that the raid was carried out to protect the interests of Muslims, Tan said, “I would think that the interests of Muslims are better protected by truth telling among its officials, not by alarmist projections.”

Meanwhile, JAIS said it was considering arrest warrants for the 12 Muslims, who apparently have refused on the advice of lawyers to give the department statements about their activities at the Harapan Komuniti (Community Hope) dinner of the Damansara Utama Methodist Church. This comes following a claim made by BN/Umno linked Malay Muslim Supremacist group PERKASA claim that "evidence" in the form of a quiz on matters of Islamic faith were found during the raid on the Damansara Utama Methodist Church (DUMC) last week by the Selangor Islamic Affairs Department (Jais).

Coming back to Muslims accepting Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior, Puad and the rest of the morons in Umno, PERKASA, MMLM, PEKIDA, PEWARIS, GAPS, Perak Mufti Harussani Zakaria, Ridhuan Tee Abdullah, Hassan Ali et al need to understand that unlike Islam, in Christianity one can become a Christian even without going through the rituals of conversion i.e. Baptism or having to change your name or wear Christian religious symbols to show that you are Christian. It doesn't matter to a Christian whether you snatch their body and bury them according to Islamic rights or bury them in a Muslim cemetery. The reason for this is that there is a thing called BAPTISM OF DESIRE in Christianity. They may talk like a Malay Muslim, walk like a Malay Muslim, look like a Malay Muslim but in actual fact they are very much a Christian like the Pope, Billy Graham or Mother Teresa. Being a Christian is all about what is in the Heart and NOT what you do to show to the world as in the case of Islam.

Do Christians Consider Mohamed A False Prophet?

The Malaysian Muslim Lawyers Association (MMLA) today backed the Selangor Islamic Religious Department’s (Jais) “legal” church raid last week and cautioned the agency against revealing details of its investigation in public.

The association said there was no need for Jais to curry favour with any political party, saying the agency was merely carrying out its lawful duties when it acted on a complaint that Christians were proselytising to Muslims at the church last Wednesday.

MMLA secretary-general Abdul Hamin Bahari also warned all politicians today against issuing reckless statements on the issue, saying that Jais should be allowed to carry out its duties without revealing the facts of its case as it could jeopardise its investigation.

Some Muslims are behaving as arrogant as the Jews during the time of Jesus who considered themselves as God's chosen people despite of the evil they were doing before the eyes of God. Today we have Muslims like those associated to the Umno brand of Islam who think they have power over everyone and that only Muslims are going to make it to heaven. After all we are all Kafirs.

The honest truth is that Christians don't even consider Mohamed as a prophet. Going by the Bible, Mohamed is a false prophet because the Bible says that anyone coming after Jesus and claims to be a prophet must be a False Prophet and this includes Mohamed as well.

This what the Bible has to say about false prophets (You can't cite me for sedition):

I (Jesus) know that after I leave, savage wolves (false prophets) will come in among you and will not spare the flock. Acts 20:29

But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them--bringing swift destruction on themselves. 2 Peter 2:1

As for the Syariah Law, Christians don't give a damn about it because it runs contrary to the Bible. So, Christians will not only reject Syariah Laws but also will resist any form of its administration on Christians.

My advice to the Mullahs of Umno, Jakim, Jais, Ikim, Pekida, Pewaris, Perkasa and MMLA is to stay away from Christians and don't defile our Churches with your pagan presence less you are coming into the House of God with humility and respect in your hearts. Christian respect of Islam must not be taken as Christian acceptance of Islam and Syariah Law.

Selangor Menteri Besar is awaiting the Jais report and further action to resolve the matter, until which excos should hold their statements while PAS' Khalid Samad says the exco member (Hassan Ali) will be asked to explain his controversial statement that Jais had 'evidence' to raid the church. Meanwhile, The Malaysian Aids Council (MAC) today rose to Harapan Komuniti's support, saying that the NGO's dinner raided by the Selangor Islamic Department (Jais) on Wednesday was actually a fund raiser for HIV/AIDS support programmes.

The fact of the matter is, the majority of Christians in Malaysia don't give a fuck about JAIS, JAKIM, IKIM or for Islam for that matter. It is only the non Muslim hypocrites in Barisaan Nasional who would want to appease the Malays that they love and support Islam. Garbage like The Star's Wong Chun Wai is one of them.

Do you really believe non Muslims care a shit about what is going on in Palestine? It really makes no sense for non Muslims to get emotional about what's happening in Palestine, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Afghanistan or Pakistan because the Muslims in general don't give a fuck about the sufferings of non Muslims in Muslim majority countries. As for JAIS, their actions only proves that Muslims are weak in their faith. Scorpene’s Sting: Malaysia’s Bribery & Murder Scandal - Case closed in Malaysia – but not in France

The Franco-Spanish Scorpene diesel-electric attack submarine competes on the global market against an array of competitors, foremost of which is ThyssenKrupp HDW’s U209/212/214 family. In June 2002, the Malaysian government signed a EUR 1 billion contract with Armaris (now DCNS) and Spanish naval shipbuilder Izar (now Navantia) for 2 SSK Scorpenes and associated support and training. Both submarines have been delivered to Malaysia, though there have been some technical problems.

Within Malaysia, the sale has been compromised by an ongoing trial and set of legal actions around the public kidnapping and private execution of Mongolian modeling student, translator, and paramour Altantuya Shaariibuu. Full and impartial accountability for public figures is not a prominent feature of Malaysian justice, but French Journalist Arnaud Dubus added to the pressure with a March 5/09 report in France’s Liberation, “Un cadavre très dérangeant: L’étrange affaire du meurtre d’une interprète mongole qui gène le pouvoir en Malaisie” (Page 30-31). It named very prominent names, offers details, and reveals the contents of documents that Malaysian courts have refused to admit…

Altantuya
The case took a dramatic turn when the victim was closely connected to EUR 114 million in “commission” payments to Perimekar, a firm owned by a close associate of Malaysia’s current Defence Minister and impending Prime Minister. The monies were paid by Armaris (now DCNS) for for “support and coordination services,” a term that may bring to mind the murder of Taiwanese Captain Yin Ching-feng in connection with a bribery scandal involving Taiwan’s DCNS frigates.

If the documents are true, Altantuya was murdered on the orders of Abdul Razak Baginda. Baginda is a close associate of Najib Razak, who was Malaysia’s Deputy PM and Minister of Defence, and now Prime Minister. Baginda has been acquitted in a Malaysian court, but Razak himself has been implicated in the associated bribery deal, and Dubus’ report includes details of text messages Baginda was reportedly sent by Razak, which strongly imply efforts by Razak to cover up the case and interfere with police investigations.

The motive for Altantuya’s death was reportedly twofold: EUR 500,000 she wished to claim as her share of the “commission” for the submarines, and the public embarrassment caused to Baginda’s marriage after his paramour tried to collect. The kidnapping was carried out by by agents of the Malaysian Special Branch police, in broad daylight, in front of Baginda’s house, with witnesses present. Malaysian sources have not published full details, but media organizations outside of Malaysia have.

As is usually true in these operations, it’s the small details that matter. The entire wet operation apparently gave insufficient consideration to the payment of Altantuya Shaariibuu’s cab fare. The taxi driver hired by Altantuya for the day did not appreciate that his passenger was kidnapped under his eyes without payment for the fare. He took note of the registration plate of the kidnapper’s car – and filed a complaint at the local police station. This established that the kidnappers’ car was a government vehicle, and fingered its owners.

Somewhere, a cadre of retired Bulgarian KDS professionals are shaking their heads, and wondering what’s wrong with the kids today.

Events & Developments

July 22-23/11: French lawyer Willian Bourdon is detained at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, and subsequently deported for ‘violating the terms of his visa.’ He is acting for the Malaysian NGO Suaram (Voice of the People) as their French legal representative.

It was Suaram who pressed the French government to open a probe into the deal. French investigators have been poring over DCNS records for months, but there area couple of legal hurdles. One is whether an NGO can act as a complainant in a bribery investigation, which this is. For France, the question is not one of murder, which is outside their jurisdiction, but of bribery, which is within it. If the NGO is deemed to have standing, the investigation would move forward and the documents found to date could become legally relevant. Malaysian PKR party VP and sitting MP Nurul Izzah Anwar was more blunt, at a a 500 guest “Ops Scorpene” fundraising dinner in Penang:

“She claims that Bourdon may have had access to crucial documents that may link Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak to the controversial Scorpene submarine purchases. “But the French court will provide public access to the investigation papers when the case goes on trial in September,” claimed Nurul at the Ops Scorpene fund raising dinner in Petaling Jaya yesterday…. hosted by Nurul’s aide, Fahmi Fadzil.”

In response, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has “warned certain quarters against running a smear campaign over alleged irregularities” in the 2002 deal.

Zainab's husband Ibrahim Saad was known as 'Mr.Ten Percent' for his corrupt practices in wanting 10 percent of contracts given under the Penang BN administration of the 'eunuch' Chief Minister of Penang Koh Tsu Koon where Saad served as his powerful Deputy. Saad actually defended his actions in taking 10 percent from contracts. In fact, Saad was the de facto Chief Minister of Penang while Tsu Koon was reduced to a mere note taker during meetings.

Saad was eventually defeated by YB Datin Seri Wan Azizah of PKR in the Permatang Pauh seat in the 1999 general election. Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak’s move to punish supporters of a rally supporting the call for clean and fair elections has brought him tremendous shame. Still, the premier continues to remain oblivious to the July 9 misdeeds committed and goes on pleading for the rakyat’s support.

International human rights agencies did not mince their words in condemning Najib for abusing the tenets of human rights and using the police to pulverise Bersih 2.0 “Walk for Democracy” rally supporters.

More recently, stinging criticism against the heavy-handed approach used by Najib to quell the rally supporters has come from LawAsia, a global organisation of lawyers, judges and legal experts.

LawAsia president Lester Huang hit the nail on the head when he said “the government of the day appeared to make political survival a priority instead of adhering to the country’s democratic principles”.

Malaysia, said Huang, did not comply with the “United Nations Basic Principles on the Use of Force and Firearms by Law Enforcement Officials” which it adopted in 1990.

In the July 9 rally, police allegedly fired tear gas canisters directly into the crowds of protesters. Premises like the Tung Shin Hospital also bore the brunt of the unbridled police action when water cannons and tear gas were fired inside its compound.

Huang is not the least convinced that the approach used by the police to disperse the rally supporters was a standard operating procedure.

The LawAsia head warned Malaysia’s leadership that it had to be more mindful of the rights of its citizens and take its regional role seriously. He said Malaysia’s membership on the United Nations Human Rights Council was called into question.

Malaysia was last year re-elected by the UN General Assembly for a three-year term on the 47-nation Human Rights Council based in Geneva.

“It is of profound regret to the regional legal community that the reaction to the Bersih movement sees these principles cast aside. Actions of this sort in any country will always deserve the strongest criticism from the legal community on both legal and humanitarian grounds,” Huang said.

But then the Najib regime has scant respect for citizens’ right to peaceful assembly or their right to know the truth, the latter referring to the purchase of the Scorpene submarines.

‘Gag’ order on rakyat remains

Be it the May 1 Labour Day rally or the Bersih 2.0 “Walk for Democracy”, the status quo remains in Malaysia, where a “gag” order is placed on the rakyat, preventing them from taking a stand and supporting any cause.

Likewise, all attempts are made by Najib to hide the truth from the people. The appearance of French human rights lawyer William Bourdon to speak about the procurement of the submarines left Najib, under whom the deal was inked, gasping for ways to get rid of Bourdon.

Bourdon was hired by Malaysian human rights body Suaram in 2009 to file a case against French naval giant DCNS over irregularities in the Scorpene submarines purchase that allegedly involved millions of ringgit in kickbacks.

The French authorities are currently probing the deal, which was also linked to Najib and the murder of Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu.

Using the excuse that Bourdon had violated his social visa, the “powers that be” made it difficult for the lawyer, which prompted Bourdon to take a flight back to Paris two days ahead of his scheduled departure.

Three days after Bourdon left for Paris, Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein on July 24 said that Bourdon, 55, was deported because he violated his social visa by giving a speech in Penang. Hishammuddin insisted there was no hidden political agenda.

But to Bourdon, the home minister’s version was nothing short of gibberish.

“I don’t know what the minister is talking about because I didn’t even have a social visa. So it is very strange that he is speaking of one,” Bourdon told FMT in an interview from Paris.

Bourdon’s fiancee, Lea Forrestier, said citizens of the European Union do not need a visa for travel into Malaysia.

Do not continue shaming Malaysia

Meanwhile, Suaram in its Malaysian Human Rights Report 2010 said human rights standards in Malaysia continue to deteriorate under Najib’s administration despite efforts to project himself as a moderate leader. And the year 2010 saw little or no improvement in this area.

As for laws which provide for detention without trial, Suaram said the authorities were stretching the laws’ limitations.

Although the Penal Code makes provision to prosecute human traffickers, the government continues to instead use the Internal Security Act (ISA) against such offenders.

Suaram said that in 2010 there were 25 arrests made under the ISA. Of this number, nine were detained for human trafficking.

On the issue of Emergency Ordinance (EO), Suaram director Kua Sia Soong also said that there were similar developments with the EO.

Kua was referring to the detention of six Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) members under the EO last month, for allegedly playing a role in the Bersih 2.0 rally.

“Traditionally, the EO is used for alleged kingpins and criminals. These six are probably a new trend, maybe because they (the government) are a bit shy over (public) condemnation of the use of ISA,” Kua said at the release of Suaram’s annual report on July 26.

The report also noted that the number of those detained under the EO had increased by 400% over the last 10 years.

Change for the rakyat’s sake

Najib has to reflect on his actions that have turned the rakyat against him. There is no room left for arrogance and post-July 9, the wrath that Najib has earned from the people back home and abroad will reflect poorly in his résumé.

The Bersih 2.0 rally, the Scorpene submarines deal and the Royal Commission of Inquiry’s report that DAP political aide Teoh Beng Hock had committed suicide – these developments are the Damocles Sword that hang over Najib’s head.

Najib would do well to realise that the “ball is now in the rakyat’s court” and they are no longer in a mood to witness any more rhetoric from the Barisan Nasional leadership. For Najib, the saving grace would be to clean up the mess he has made, the latest being the July 9 attack on the Bersih 2.0 rally supporters.

The clock is ticking and there is no more room left for arrogance for Najib and his bandwagon of self-serving politicians. The rakyat have wisened up and this is what Najib is most afraid of.

Dear PM Najib,

As a result of the developments on July 9, the world is now paying increased attention to Malaysia.

In particular, we now wonder how free and fair your nation's elections are. We have learned that some of your country's citizens believe that Malaysia needs electoral reform. On July 9, they marched with a coalition called Bersih 2.0, and they called for free and fair elections.

You responded by declaring Bersih illegal and suppressing the 'Walk for Democracy' with overwhelming police force. The world noticed your heavy-handed reaction, and it wondered why a peaceful demonstration calling for fair elections bothered you so much - so much so that you were willing to risk Malaysia's international reputation - and give your country and yourself a major black eye.

When you returned from your visit to Europe, you declared that Malaysia's elections truly are free and fair, and that Umno has never cheated in any election.

I am glad to hear that.

Because it means that in Malaysia's next general elections, you have nothing to hide.

Governments that manipulate elections have lots to cover up. But you say that your elections are free and fair, so that means you have nothing to be afraid of showing to all of us in the outside world, not to mention your own people.

Therefore, I am sure that you are willing to readily agree to the following proposals:

1) Allow international groups to observe your elections. Based on your assertions, they will find nothing amiss, and their reports will give credibility to Malaysia's election results.

2) Allow observers from all political parties to witness the postal balloting that takes place on military bases. For years, the opposition has said that something is amiss. But since you say that Umno never cheats, I am sure that they will find nothing wrong, and you will be vindicated.

3) Let's put an end to all the accusations about phantom voters by using a simple, effective and cheap solution - indelible ink.

Your Elections Commission wants a super-sophisticated biometric system, but there is no way it can be in place by then - and many people worry that it can be manipulated. Indelible ink works - just ask the world's largest democracy, India. I don't think anyone has ever disputed the results of India's elections in over 60 years.

4) Finally, let RTM be truly independent, like the BBC and NHK and the public broadcasting systems in Australia, France, Germany, and elsewhere in the world. RTM does not belong to Umno. It belongs to the people.

As long as RTM - funded by all the people of Malaysia - acts as the propaganda arm of the 25 percent of Malaysians who voted for Umno, no one can believe that Malaysia's elections are fair and free.

So, my dear Prime Minister, it's all very simple. You say that Malaysia's elections are free and fair. Now you have a chance to prove it to the outside world and remove all doubts. And if your party wins, then the Malaysian people - and the world - might finally be convinced.

If you refuse these suggestions, then the doubts will linger, and your assertions about the honesty of Malaysia's election will continue to be questioned.

A Message From Teoh Beng Hock

MACC (UMNO's gestapo) didn't want TBH dead, they just wanted to break him down so he would implicate his boss Ean Yong. These goons refuse to believe that ANYONE wielding any political power can be squeaky clean. That's how descendants of brigands and pirates think. In Bolehland, to have a clear conscience immediately disqualifies one from rising up the ranks of UMNO, MCA or MIC. They only feel safe to be in the company of those already tainted like themselves.

A violent shockwave rippled through PWTC the night of 8 March 2008 when it became clear that Selangor state had fallen to Pakatan Rakyat. Najib immediately blamed it on Khir Toyo who immediately summoned Zakaria Mat Deros. Losing Selangor, the richest state, was absolutely unthinkable! Zakaria Mat Deros was the first victim of UMNO's fury. His heart gave way under fire when he refused to bear sole responsibility for Selangor's loss and initiate racial trouble in Klang. Khir Toyo felt it was his duty to regain control of Selangor, even if it meant offering somebody from PAS the mentri besarship, but the UMNO-PAS talks led nowhere.

Najib began to copy Anwar's plan and tried to lure over a few defectors. Perak was the easiest target, because UMNO only needed three defectors to topple the state government. Once Najib got safely past the post and got officially installed as UMNO's PM, he pulled out all the stops. Khir Toyo, still seething from losing his cushy job as MB, was instrumental in assigning the task to his cronies in Selangor MACC (how else has Khir Toyo managed to stay out of jail all these years?) - particularly deputy director Hishamuddin Hashim, who was a junior deity at MACC, feared by all the staff and free to do as he liked.

The RCI was allowed to ferret out and name a few MACC officers directly responsible for TBH's death - but was careful to avoid openly accusing them of culpable homicide or even manslaughter. Since it's well nigh impossible to find out precisely what happened to TBH in Plaza Masalam between July 15 and 16, 2008 - short of forcing a confession out of Hishamuddin Hashim, Mohd Ashraf and other MACC thugs involved in Teoh's "interrogation" - the RCI took refuge in the remote possibility that Teoh, in fact, suffered a total nervous breakdown and in a moment of temporary insanity, tried to exit through a 14th-floor window.

Well, folks, I have been in touch with Beng Hock several times since his death. He was a true hero, our Beng Hock. He maintained a stony silence until he could no longer bear the intimidation and humiliation - then he lashed out at them. That's when the MACC goons turned feral on him and went overboard. Let Hishamuddin Hashim, Khir Toyo and Najib sue me if they want. I promised Beng Hock I would speak on his behalf. Beng Hock has left it to us to ensure that MACC is eventually dismantled through unrelenting public pressure. Police raided the home of blogger Chan Lilian in Penang and carted away her 27-inch iMac and a modem. Her crime was to Twitter on June 29: “i think all Christians shud march for all the persecution they had done to us and our Lord”. This was in reference to Bersih 2.0.
This came about when pro-BN/Umno Blog House Malaysia secretary Tony Yew (pic above) made a police report so that the authorities could “charge [Lilian] for seditious statements, and use her as an example to others that we cannot take National Unity for granted”.

Tony Yew is a typical Christian hypocrite and modern day Judas just like the BN Christian politicians and so-called Christian journalists like Wong Chun Wai and Joceline Tan.

It is a legitimate Christian call to duty to stand up and be counted when human liberties and freedom are at stake. More so, when the Christian faith and her adherents are trampled upon by a corrupt and despicable regime like BN/Umno. Christians must stand up for their faith and for Justice and Truth. I HOPE every Malaysian on both sides of the political divide will read Wong Chun Wai’s column “Of Angry birds and angry Malaysians” (Sunday Star, July 24) and take to heart his comment that in our nation today “there is too much contradiction and sacrificing of principles, all seemingly in the name of justice”.

Instead, we should all take stock of ourselves before we hurl accusations and abuse at others, a trait that some Malaysians have honed to a fine art to mask their own inadequacies or intentions.

When we re-examine our own lives, we will find that there are many things that need correction. We have to remove the log in our eye before we worry about the speck in the other’s eye.

We have to stop bribing the police before we shout about corruption, we have to be an open book before we ask others to be transparent, we have to treat all our family members equally before we ask for fair treatment from those in authority.

I am particularly perturbed by the growing level of intolerance and bigotry that seems to have so gripped certain levels of Malaysian society that they will not see reason. They have been whipped up into a state of frenzy until there is no room for logic or reason.

Where will it all this end? When brother betrays brother and turn against each other? When father and children are torn apart?

Reading the hatred on the blogs and Internet one will walk away with the view that Malaysia is a nation of crooks, scoundrels, and vagabonds, and not a land where for the last 50-odd years its citizens have enjoyed a long period of relative peace, galloping economic growth, a safe environment and a place in the sun for all.

True, we have had our share of challenges, but we had been able to overcome all of them because of political stability and a mature citizenry that believed in family and community values like loyalty, fair play, and tolerance.

The backbone of that political stability had been the the Alliance and its enlarged entity, Barisan Nasional, a coalition of some 14 political parties representing every ethnic group from all corners of Malaysia and all subscribing to sound, unifying policies and practices.

Of course, there have been individual cases of excesses and misdemeanors, but these have been periodically corrected by the judicial process and through the ballot box. And that is as it should be.

As a Christian, I also despair at the way in which some mainline churches have allowed their pulpits to be used to propagate political propaganda of the worst kind. They have succumbed to making a volatile cocktail of religion and politics.

I understand that, in these churches, preaching from the Bible has given way to proselytizing the faith of opposition politics. Video tapes of the July 9 Bersih rally have been shown to some congregations and negative connotations drawn from them.

Religious leaders should understand that not all members of their congregation approve of such practices, and be fully aware of the inherent dangers of such actions twisted for the political ambitions of individuals or groups.

Remember what Christ said when his loyalty to the Roman rulers was being questioned? Responding to Pontius Pilate about the nature of his kingdom he said: “My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting, that I might not be delivered to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world.” (Bible, John 18:36).

Christ’s religious teachings were separate from earthly political activity which have, ever since, reflected the traditional division in Christian thought between the state and the Church.

Again, Jesus said: “Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s.” This message, coming in response to the question whether it was lawful for Jews to pay taxes to Caesar, is about circumstances when it is desirable for the Christian to submit to earthly authority.

Church leaders agitating for change should look at themselves first. Their priority should be to put their house in order. Does their church practice democracy? Is there openness and transparency? Are there cases of mismanagement and incompetence? Are there cliques and divisions among the congregation?

If church leaders want change, they should just follow Jesus Christ. They need no other role model.

What's baffling is the fact that Muslims such as Malaysians who have not met with a Jew or an Israeli in their lifetime would harbor such resentment and hatred towards Jews and Israelis.

The Scribe can't find anywhere in history where Jews or Israelis had harmed Malaysians. It was the Japanese during World War II that caused much hardship to Malaysians. Angkatan Amanah Merdeka or AMANAH was launched by Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah out of the blue. The Scribe smells a rat in AMANAH. Talk is rife that former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamed has been undermining incumbent PM Najib Razak through the actions of the Police and PERKASA.

Mahathir is very sore with Najib because of many reasons. Among them being Najib's close relationship with the Singapore. However, it is as good as anyone's guess that Mahathir wants Deputy PM Muhydeen Yassin to become PM so that his son Mukhriz Mahathir can become DPM.

The writing is on the wall of Najib Razak's political demise. Even though Umno appears to be divided into three main warring factions,the one thing all three warring factions don't want to see is that their internal sabotaging actually putting Pakatan Rakyat into Putrajaya. Thus we have AMANAH, another proxy of Umno trying to fool the Rakyat (People) by diverting their attention from the Evil of BN/Umno to the positives of BN/Umno via AMANAH.

If Tengku Razaleigh is truly decent as a politician, why is he still with Umno. After all, just look who are with AMANAH. Former MCA President Ong Tee Keat, former Sarawak DCM Daniel Tajem, former Tourism Minister Kadir Sheikh Fadzir and KITA President Zaid Ibrahim. Already, we have Zaid Ibrahim wanting AMANAH to adopt Pakatan Rakyat's issues. What AMANAH is trying to do is to hoodwink the Rakyat into believing that a post-Najib BN/Umno is similar to the ideals and aspirations of Pakatan Rakyat, so why the need for regime change when the 'needs' of the Rakyat are met by a 'reformed' BN/Umno courtesy of AMANAH. That's the reason why AMANAH is claiming to be the 'Third Force' in Malaysian politics when it should be MCLM.

The Star's Joceline Tan (pic above) has clearly shown to the World that she is a 'Journalistic Whore' just like fellow Christian and colleague, Wong Chun Wai. Joceline has taken a cheap shot at the Christian Church in Malaysia by insinuating that the National Evangelical Christian Fellowship (NECF) and the Roman Catholic Church in Malaysia are against the BN/Umno Regime of Najib Razak. Joceline laments of the 'lukewarm' response of the Roman Catholic Church in particular of Najib Razak's meeting with Pope Benedict XVI and the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Vatican and Malaysia.

What Joceline and the likes of Wong Chun Wai fail to see or hear is that Jesus Christ taught Christians to stand up against tyranny and oppression. This after all, is what BN/Umno is synonymous for, with laws like the ISA, EO and the brutal repression, detention and murder of law abiding citizens in the hands of the state controlled instruments of the BN/Umno Regime such as the Police and the MACC. Joceline it appears, is willing to prostitute herself by setting up her brothers and sisters of the Christian faith to more tyranny and oppression by the agents of the Evil BN/Umno Regime.

The Scribe calls for the immediate release of Uncle Bersih (Hii Tiong Huat) from the psychiatric ward. This action seems similar to the action taken by by US authorities in 1917 when peaceful American women protesters who demanded voting rights for women were incarcerated in the prison's psychiatric ward where no one was allowed to visit them, including lawyers and family members. While in China, those who are against the government are deemed as psychotic and being kept in the psychiatric hospital. It looks like our government is adopting this insane practices. The Scribe would also like to highlight the heroics of another senior citizen Auntie Bersih below in an article from The Herald.

Quiet has settled over Saturday’s (July 9) chaos but one image is still making waves on the Internet — the picture of an elderly woman in yellow, drenched in rain and chemical-laced water, walking away from riot police while clutching on to a long-stemmed flower and a near-empty mineral water bottle.

She is Annie Ooi, a 65-year-old retired English teacher who took a bus from Setapak in the early morning of July 9 to join thousands of others in Bersih 2.0’s march for free and fair elections. An unknown man had offered her the flower in the morning and she waved it like a flag throughout the four-hour march. Netizens have dubbed her “Aunty Bersih”, and even Malaysia’s “Lady of Liberty”, for placing her health and safety at risk to join a march the government had declared illegal.

Pictures of the diminutive Ooi strolling in the war zone that Kuala Lumpur had turned into are all over the Internet, inviting messages of awe and wonderment from netizens across the country. On Facebook, at least three fan pages were set up in dedication to Ooi immediately after the event. One page called “Malaysian Lady of Liberty” attracted 17,176 “likes” as of 9am this morning. Ooi was one of the few who dared to turn up in yellow to mark the occasion, despite earlier warnings that those with clothes indicating support for the outlawed Bersih 2.0 coalition would be arrested.

Speaking to The Malaysian Insider through her daughter over Facebook chat last night, Ooi confirmed that she had been tear gassed four times and sprayed with the water cannon once during Saturday’s pandemonium. She said she was unsure of what time the rally was scheduled to start or where, but was determined to support its cause by participating in it even if she had to do it alone. “She took the bus to General Hospital because the roads into town were blocked,” her daughter related. “She walked to Chow Kit, Maju Junction, went into the back lane of Little India to pass Masjid Jamek, avoiding cops, heading to National Mosque but was stopped at Dayabumi.”

There, Ooi was interviewed by one uniformed policeman and four others in plainclothes. They asked for her IC and recorded her details, then asked her why she was dressed in yellow. “Why can’t I wear yellow?” she asked in return. According to a post by a blogger who claimed to have spoken to Ooi before the march began, the feisty retiree had asked other protesters why they did not turn up in yellow as well. “Why do we have to feel so scared in our own home land . . . and by own countrymen,” she had reportedly said. A newbie at street protests, Ooi also did not know what to do in the event that she got gassed, and had not brought anything to protect herself, her daughter said. “She wasn’t prepared for any of the attacks,” her daughter said. “She went without protection; no goggles, no masks, no salt, nothing. It was horrible . . . the coughing, and didn’t know how to stop the discomfort and pain. After the second gassing, she was offered salt by someone and it helped a lot.”

Despite this, eyewitnesses claimed on the internet that Ooi had marched on determinedly during the protest and despite the chaos, even yelled at others not to run. When told to ask her mother if she would dare to brave another march for the same cause, her daughter said, quoting Ooi, “Without a doubt”. “There was a very strong oneness in spirit which she had never felt before in this country,” added the daughter again quoting Ooi.

“Especially from the younger generation which have their years ahead of them yet marched on despite the possibility of ruining their lives by getting arrested.” Ooi was among the thousands of protesters who took to the streets of Kuala Lumpur on Saturday to march in support of Bersih 2.0’s demand for electoral reforms. More than a thousand people were arrested, and chaos broke out at midday after the police fired tear gas canisters and sprayed water cannons to break up the crowd.
